UK General Election thread

I suspect they'll have 3 or 4. They'll hold onto the two they have, and might pick up another couple: not sure will Farage win his though.

But yeah, not the kingmakers they're being cracked up to be.

Any Scottish-based Procfolk? Is it going to be the SNP landslide everyone's predicting?

I was speaking to a non SNP Jock earlier in the week .He seemed certain that they will do well due to the Yes vote referendum lobby getting out to the Polling Station and voting . He said they are keen to get another referendum and wIll vote SNP on that issue alone .
I have watched little of the pre election hype, but would say that Cameron and Miliband are both poor .

Sturgeon has wiped the floor with all comers so far.

The mistake Labour made was getting Brown in with Cameron and Clegg on the so called deal for Scotland which was then reneged on.

A socialist government would be a disaster, a complete bunch of gowls.

The scots will always be afraid of independence.
Imo.

Voting for the SNP in a landslide for a Westminster election 6 months after a huge no to independence is very definitely nationalism Scottish style alright. All the talk and none of the balls.

That said, Sturgeon is an outstanding performer. You'd wonder if she had joined labour rather than SNP when she started out back in the day would she be leader and heading for number 10..

I think labour will sneak it with either a razor thin majority or propped up by sdlp and plaid. The Tory campaign is the most amateurish shambles I've ever seen.

Don't think there's one of these already.

It's starting to look like a classic 'Two Bald Men fighting over a comb' election. No chance of an overall majority for anyone; the fun will start if the Tories are still the largest party but the only viable electoral arithmetic comes with a Labour-SNP agreement. The British are confused enough by the concept of coalition politics: the notion that the largest party wouldn't necessarily be in government will completely blow their minds.

What constituencies are UK-based Procfolk in? I'm in Gedling, where the local Labour MP will probably get re-elected with an increased majority. I suspect the local UKIP vote will increase as well.

Leeds Central - Hilary Benn is the incumbent. One prediction website gives him a 99% chance of victory, which might be a little on the cautious side.

For all the talk of massive uncertainty, there are only a few scenarios which seem anyway plausible: the current government gets back in, a Labour-SNP coalition or looser agreement, or maybe some sort of Labour-SNP-Lib Dem agreement. Some of the other parties might come into play, but it's pretty unlikely imo.

Tories down a bit in the polls, Lab-Lab-SNP would have a solid majority according to the Guardian/ICM poll, with Tories over 50 seats off a majority.

With 81 seats between SNP & Lib Dems, Labour are probably starting coalition talks already
