That policy is delusional, it is MAGA in a nutshell. They based it on fake assumptions, but you know what? Myself, I do not give a damn Europe is not governed by Yanks, they wish. The worst is that Americans, after this shitshow MAGA administration goes away, will have to spend years to fix it, and some of things are never be the same after it.

Just some examples of the wrong assumptions:
- They claim that the global share of Europe dropped since 90s. Well, but they seem not to take into account China and also that GDP from service sector which US dominates is not adding value.
- they claim there is a risk of “civilizational erasure” hahahaha this is hillarious and only based on right wing nutters whispering to their ears. Like France collapsed already in early 00s, Sweden is under occupation. Now they say Belgium is not Belgian. Nutters
- US seeks to support genuine democracy, free expression, and national cultural identity. This made me laugh US is behind in all of those categories
- Rise of “patriotic” parties is viewed as a positive trend. Hahahaha yeah AdF and Reform with National Front
- They want to restore internal European stability and strategic stability with Russia. Hahahahahahaah how unstable you feel now

This is a joke not the policy, and will damage the US further.

I agree on most of your points.

However Europe is extremely dependent on US companies and thus, in Trump's eyes, the US.

Europe's software industry is enfeebled. There is no European hyperscaler, there are few decent scale European software companies.
Out of the top 50 companies in the forbes software and programming industry list, 18 are American, one European (SAP) and one Australian. SAP are so heavily dependent on US sales that if they were blocked from the market, they'd collapse. That said, if SAP collapsed, the US economy would collapse with them, you don't know logistical pain until you've migrated an ERP system.

There are only two European companies in the top 50, no European mobile OS with any decent traction, there's a couple of small handset manufacturers (HMD/Nokia & Fairphone), there are no significant European server manufacturers*. Wortmann (german IT market) is the only decently sized laptop manufacturer.
There's no massive European social media companies, even traditional media is dominated by Americans, Apple, Netflix, Disney, Comcast...

There are a few areas where Europe is very to US tech (ARM for chip architecture, ASML for manufacture, Ericsson and Nokia for phone networking), but europe is a hell of a weaker position.

And that's not mentioning the military command and control + ISR capability dependencies.

So unfortunately, Europe has very little to defend itself in the public sphere, and Trump has an awful lot to attack with, and this is his announcement that he intends to attack the EU as an institution and liberal democracies within Europe.



*Yes, I know Atos aren't tiny but they really focus their hardware side entirely on the supercomputer side...
