Because China doesn't want this trade war, if Trump climbs down, it's a win for them but they know there's no real benefit in rubbing Trump's face in it

China doesnt want this trade war, but the same time China cannot give Trump and Americans any possibility to claim that they were successful as it will erode party's image.

The trade war could be limited, I think, the tariffs reduced significantly, but there will be zero chance to return to business as usual for US. China will not do it, they know now that they are the ones who give the conditions, not the US. They will now continue to secure their gains from Trump's shitshow.

Same would apply to the EU. When the trade will come back, the new reality after what Trump did will accelerate cooperation with India, work to be independent from US technology and most likely will result in a different approach towards China altogether.

Time will tell, but the history and Chinese approach from the past are known. The best thing Trump did was the wake up call for Europe.

I don't agree. The party can easily claim victory, Trump thought he could pick a fight with China, he learned he couldn't and backed down.

I don't see how that's anything but a demonstration of strength by the party. It vindicates their strategy of securing certain strategic areas of the world economy such as Rare Earths

And they will claim the victory. My point is: PCC CCP cannot afford the US claiming their victory or even give them a chance to sow the seed of doubt of that type.

Rare Earth minerals is a small piece in the jigsaw (but significant), China is manufacturing power horse, but they are just finishing securing most of Africa (see recent deal with Nigeria, one of the richest in oil and gas nations in the world) to themselves and the trade war with the US opens the door to Europe for them.
They need to keep this as for example the collaboration with Japan relies on it.
