Tramore Valley Park

It seems that the council have plans to make a Compulsory Purchase Order on parts of Vernon Mount with a view to extending a cycle track from Tramore Valley over the motorway .

To be honest, I've got mixed feelings about the Douglas concrete jungle extending ever further into local woodland.

My da has been talking about that cycle track since I was a child, I don't think it's ever going to happen.

Something needs to happen with Vernon Mount though. It would be great to see it restored.

Can we not leave it as it is? There's already an issue with people drinking by the electricity pile along the pedestrian entrance so the last thing we need is to open it up to scummers from Grange and now Ballyphehane and Turner Cross accessing it through the South Douglas Road.

I'd be sceptical about opening it up too much also, it shouldn't be made attractive as a driniking venue for bowsies.

The new entrance will be great and give ready access to the amenity for those of us living on or just off the South Douglas Road without having to go practically into Douglas to avail of it.

That new entrance from Christ The King direction sounds like a great idea.

But turning Vernon Mount into the the tarmacced horror that is the Mangala would be a shame.

There was a fellow in a yellow overalls doing some survey there the other night so this might happen sooner than we think.

Not sure what the Mangala was like before but I think it makes sense to have tarmacked paths for wheelchair, buggy, and elderly access to amenities. Grand when you're young and sure-footed but these areas need to cater for all. If only they could put some slots in the tarmac the width of racing bicycle wheels ;-)

What a fantastic public amenity TVP is.

Went for a stroll there yesterday morning with my lady friend and must say, it was great to see so many different groups enjoying their morning.

There was a young lads rugby match on, and just up the next pitch an American football game. Joggers, walkers and families just having fun filled every corner of the park.

Wonderful sight.

It's a great spot alright. There is a lockbox facility near the entrance where you can rent sports equipment. That's a brilliant idea, and I haven't seen it elsewhere.
