I was stewarding at the corner at the end of that stretch Nelly - the final corner of the race. While the video looks cool, it was impossible for runners to pass each other because of the crowd - you had slow runners and groups holding up faster runners coming from behind and there were a number of collisions and falls. Don't forget the runners finishing the half were flying along and being restricted into dangerous situations by these "supporters". Looks great on that video but look how slow that cameraman was running - holding up a huge crowd behind him so that he could get his video. Apart from the 10m before the corner, the organisers had only barriered one side of the stret - I couldn't believe it when I went on duty and it was too late to change it then.
Five of us were trying to move the crowds back but as soon as you'd move them, they'd just run onto the road again. The abuse they gave us was shocking too. Eventually the cops had to move in. It'll be barriers on both sides all the way out along Washington Street next year I'd say.
