Training Run Times

Be great to do it together C. - a reprise of our great Rotterdam two-hander back in the day.

BTW, when you were getting ready for Valencia last year, how far was your longest run? And how many times a week did you risk going out? You still did around 3:40, right?
Ya bollox, I'd have bagged 20,000 with this reply an' all.

I'd say you're in a better place than I was pre Valencia. I got out 3, maybe 4 times a week. No speed at all. I know you're only doing 2, but I barely managed two 30k runs in the programme. One 30 on the nose and the other 33. Both were huge struggles at about 5.20 pace. Ended up doing a bit faster on the day so was really happy. Finishing time 3.41 I believe. Your 17 miler sounds solid. Btw, I know a Kerry lad who did a few marathons on two a week!

As for Boston. Twould be 2028 I reckon so chances of both of us making it are slim!

Entries for that race are only 18 months away C. - get your diary blocked out kid!

Peter lynch clocked 59.52 in the new York half, 1st Irish man to go under 2 hrs
Saw that alright, but it won't count as Nat Record cos of the course profile, it says.

Did another 10k yesterday, flatter than last week. Happy with 42.13, that's an 80 second improvement. I continue to be amazed by the human body and mind. I was feeling shite the day before when I went to stretch the legs. Managed 5k @ 5.20 pace, creaking like a Viking boat so I was.

I see the auld Terrier is coming along nicely enough. Up to the magic 32k in training?

Nice work, fair play on the resilience front

My kids sport has taken over my life at the moment so I’m just grabbing any bits of spare time that pop up. 7km yesterday morning early before I was gone for the entire day again

Well done C. - great to see you building the performances and not getting injured.

Yep, I was happy with the 20 miles- even managed to get 190m of climbing into the seond half (Barracka, Model Farm Road, Back road up into Ballingollig and the Angler's Rest - Kerry Pike climb). I was well bollixed coming in the stretch but it was a big psychological step. It's a bollix not being able to risk running during the week - there's just zero condition there. I'll take what I'm getting tough (y)

Does anyone else find huge differences in their performance/feeling depending on what time they go for a run? If I go out before 5 or 6 in the evening, I feel fairly crap. At that time or after I feel fine. Weird or understandable? Just done 9 or so Kms there and enjoyed it, though 'twas cold and dark and a hilly route. Last Wed at 3 did a similar distance, less hilly and felt I needed a lift after 5 minutes. The half marathon I'm aiming for starts at 18.00!!!
