Training Run Times

:) . Thanks C! I have done a little bit more recently in terms of sessions but nothing groundbreaking either. I ran the masters cross country in the misery that Guapo so eloquently described in his race report and ran way better than expected which lit a bit of spark, not a fire, more of an ember really....:). I defintely punch above my weight in the mud & hills.
Sunday was a great buzz though, what a stunning day out there sandwiched between the never ending days of winter. For the hours of 12-2pm i fancy Dungarvan might have been the cheeriest little hamlet in Ireland. Everybody was in great form.
I ran OK myself, sure were never happy regardless. Id need to lose another 3-5 mins off of that to even get a sideways look from some of the lads. (The majority of whom were sporting the Puma Fast R shoes by the way).
Can i get there, maybe. Will i put in the work required, probably not.

Went through halfway in 29:56 so took a minute+ out of 2nd half which has to be a positive. I found it hard to get into any kind of rhythm, spent more time sheltering in a group and looking down at the road surface in miles 3&4 rather than getting my head up. Finally i found myself alongside 2 lads at mile 7 on fresh tarmac & we made decent progress together. I ran away from them with a 5:30 9th mile.

Isn't that how everyone races Dungarvan though. Miles 3 and 4 are always a right old slog. You get the turn after 5 and some decent downhill from there, followed by your fresh tarmac as you say.

Well done on the effort - great to see you shine again lad.

Great report, I was running alongside this fella at just before mile 8, I said...I can see the motorway up ahead, He just about managed to say...Its one thing seeing it its another matter climbing up it,

Well, training updates don't happen here very often anymore but here's one! I'm kinda trying to get my ass in shape for a couple of Spring 10ks and so the odd, very odd, faster session has crept into the weekly routine. Today was an old 5*1k workout. Said I'd aim for about 4.10 per km..... Bit faster than race target pace. Did 'em in 4.07 or so with roughly 2 mins walk jog between. Tough, although I wasn't doubled over or anything. Legs were creaky afterwards; not sure the track with its bends is the best idea. Might try a session on the old bike path by the river next week. Getting out 3 or 4 times a week with max one faster session like today's. Thinking of 4.20/km pace for the first race in early March.

Have had two physio sessions for a knee issue, He says it is osteoarthritis, The longer i sit the stiffer it gets, If i try to straighten my knee
during the night it is very sore, He gave me plenty of exercises to do, I ran 5 miles tuesday night without any significant pain, I will
do the same tonight, I am also taking, Joint ace tablets

What pills are ya on for the joints, J?

Joint ace, would you recommend an alternative?

I've been using the Kinetica Collagen powder but that's because I'm on my 3rd meniscus tear.

I don't know if I'd recommend it per se the science is very mixed on it.

The makers have a (poor enough) study claiming efficacy

I checked it's got about half the amount of Glucose Amine and Vit D as your joint ace and none of the Tumeric or Clondolroitin.

It may well be placebo but my knees feel good.

Probably more significant is the one or two days per week of strength work
