Training Run Times

Dingle half sept 2026 sold out in 30 mins
The interest is massive in certain events, thats nuts but i guess you'd have great weekend if you grabbed accommodation there as well. Would be a tough run, it's uphill out of Dingle in every direction! I presume the race heads towards Ventry which would be the least of the climbing I'd say?

I had the window for the Clontarf half open with the ticket selected last night and didn't purchase for fear of having to do it! I have 6 weeks to get to 21km.. dread!

edit: yep, just checked - Dingle-Ventry-Slea Head-Dunquinn.. jesus christ, thats a class cycle but I wouldn't fancy running it!

6 weeks to the Clontarf HM so I figured I needed to get started this weekend. I’ve really only been running 5-8kms with a few 10kms thrown in so I reckon there is only one way to get this done:

Week 1 - 5km Tues run 12km Weekend run
Week 2 - 5km Tues run 14km Weekend run
Week 3 - 5km Tues run 16km Weekend run
Week 4 - 5km Tues run 18km Weekend run
Week 5 - 5km Tues run 20km Weekend run
Week 6 - 3km Tues run, race on Sat 15th Nov

I was tired earlier but got out the door and the 12km done at 5.30/km pace @ 140BPM.My legs don’t have enough mileage in them, but my cardio etc all feels fine

Had a good 10k last night, I knew after a mile that i was moving well, Had intended 5 miles but felt good so decided to
go 10k, Took 90 seconds off my time in the Castlelyons 10k two weeks ago,
Nice one Jimmy

I did the 14km run this morning, took it handy on the pace and got there fine. 5.25/km average

My issue is simply not enough miles in the legs, but that’s me at 2/3rds of the race distance with exactly 5 weeks to race day

Had a nice 8 miles this morning, 8.50 pace
Was late setting my watch to pick up signal so first Mile showed 7.22 lol, 8.50 more accurate, Happy though, will get 10 miles in next two weeks

Strange run this morning.. the plan was for it to be my 16km run stepping it up 2km per week. I didn’t sleep well, awake during the night, then slept later than I usually would and woke with a fair bit of lower back discomfort. Because of kids sports I was under pressure so I fid a bit of stretching but no time for breakfast so I made a smoothie

Went off running and felt ok, but from about 7km i was feeling g like the whole thing was a massive effort, I was in the park so easy to change the distance, so I headed for home again. Finished bang on 10km but absolutely fecked after it.

I checked my watch when I was done and it turns out that I ran at 5:15/km average with the early kms in at 5:04-07. That’s 10 secs/km faster than last weeks 14km which was fine

I was glad to see the pace because I was writing it off as a shit run and blaming my back/tiredness/lack of food.. maybe it was a combination of everything? Not sure what to make of it
