Training Run Times

5k Club handicap event last night, 32 took part, The people who submitted the slowest time went off first and we all went off
in a staggered basis, I submitted 27 mins, Christ it was savage warm, I say 15 started ahead of me and same started behind me,
I passed a few and i reckon 6 passed me, Came in 27.03, Lat half mile was mainly uphill, Was gasping for air, Good variety of paces from 33 mins to 19.50 mins
Thats sounds class JimmY - Id love to try something like that. My focus for now is the 10km beach run in July, I have plenty of work to do to make sure I can enjoy that one

Its great fun and also a great challenge, You try to catch those who started before you, And are also listening for the thundering hoofs behind you as the speed merchants hunt you down, We should do a PROC version on the marina, BT Could give us all a 10 min start,

10 mins + a bag full of rocks on his back!

Plus we'd all have to listen to him telling us how he ran up to Limerick and back to warm up

One thing that all races will have to watch out for as they grow is the issue of numbers/width of the street. I did 13k of the Lux one a few weeks ago and for the most of it I was zigzagging like a nutter. Not very enjoyable, loads of slow downs and a bit of clipping. That's at about 4,50 down to 4.25 km pace. I wasn't THAT far back either and people around me were more or less running at the same pace. I say this cos I hear Cork is looking to grow numbers. Hope it doesn't spoil the race.

I think Cork should star the half maybe 15 mins earlier, That way the majority doing the full wont converge on the large numbers doing the half,

It was better this year. the half started at 10:45 so converged at 16.5.miles/3 and a bit miles with 4-4:30 marathoners

Not brilliant for the faster halfers but better for the marathoners

Last year it started at 10:30 so it was 3hr.45 marathoners or so.

It's about right the way it is.

They need to put in a 3hr cut off at half way and another at mile 20. My unpopular opinion is if you can't break 6 hours which is fairly generous you should walk your marathon virtually on a footpath in your own time
