Training Run Times

How are ye all doing? I got orthotic insoles at end of may and they are helping, At the moment im doing average 3.5 miles per run
but will build it up, At least now i am running pain free and am not hobbling post run,
Had to reduce activity over last 5 weeks or so due to back issues. Finally (fingers crossed) looks like I'm out the other side of it.

Have booked in with my physio though, I think I need some daily stretches to keep it loose. Seems like my posterior chain locks up at the drop of a hat.

Justice for us poor bastards running Cork or Dublin as opposed to those mountain top to coast things they have Stateside.
LOL, power to the people 🤟
In fairness, those downhill whiz races suited Boston for a few years post-Covid - they weren't filling the event applying the usual rules so by including some of the mockeyah races they were able to dole out way more BQs than normal. Now Boston is oversubsribed again so they can tighten it up once more.

My return to running plan had me do two miles two days in a row which my knee did not appreciate one bit. Gave it a rest and have stuck with strengthening and was able to do a very slow two and a half miles earlier which was the furthest I’ve been able to do since early May and the run in May involved pain.

My MRI from last December introduced me to the exciting world of Chondrosis who, as it turns out, doesn’t play hurling with the Barrs.

They dropped the times by 5 mins for 2026 because you basically had to be 5mins+ inside the prior times to get in and the demand and standard has picked up so much that they are predicting you’ll still need 5mins + of a buffer on the new time to get in.

Savage demand for spots now.

That's as it should be IMO. It's great to have a race that's focused on qualification and not just a lottery - all part of the bigger picture that makes Boston unique. It makes a BQ mean something again too.

Im betwixt and between, maybe finally getting a sense that you cant just do anything you want forever. I had a good bit of training on the bike over the last while and was flying on that. Last weekend I decided I needed to get running again after a layoff of a few months so shot off for 70km on the bike with a small group, and when we got back I threw the runners on and went for a 5km run. After 1km the legs started to send the signals to say it was a bridge too far but I decided I'd drive on regardless.. its only 5km, have to push through these things and all that.. finished the run and could feel that the legs had taken a smashing, woke the next day with proper stiffness, could hardly get down the stairs etc. A full feckin week before the legs fully eased out

Then down to Emerald Park with the kids on Sunday, it was quiet so 5min queues for the rides which meant that I went on the rollercoasters so many times I ended up with a touch of vertigo! Woke Monday morning and bent down to get something off the floor.. bang, lower back seized from the battering my back had taken on the coasters. Fuck sake, only just moving ok now with the back again so hopefully I will be ok for a 5km run this weekend and then start to build it up again

5k Club handicap event last night, 32 took part, The people who submitted the slowest time went off first and we all went off
in a staggered basis, I submitted 27 mins, Christ it was savage warm, I say 15 started ahead of me and same started behind me,
I passed a few and i reckon 6 passed me, Came in 27.03, Lat half mile was mainly uphill, Was gasping for air, Good variety of paces from 33 mins to 19.50 mins
