Training Run Times

16 marathons - wow!

out of interest.. what happened in April 2012 and June 2017? I know things never sit into a perfect curve because real life, but you had 2 x 15 minute spikes there that you corrected in the next race each time. Weather/Conditions?
April 2012 - "Duel on the Sun", the only year Boston ever offered deferrals. 32 celsius coming in the last six miles. Went out in 1:32, came home in 1:42 for 3:14. The heat killed everyone - that's by far my best ever finish position in Boston (just over 1100th). With reduced immunity I got a brutal chest infection the week afterwards - 8 weeks of coughing and spewing

June 2017 - per Carmona - bad groin injury killed the show and a 1:31 / 1:36 wiped me out in the second half. Gimped my way home from the Lough - only kept going because Carmona was up the road for his first sub-3. I spent a year off the road after that, had to have hip surgery for a torn labrum, endless rehab, etc.

Jimmy, you seem to be getting going pretty well these past few weeks - a bit of structure and consistency - well done kid (y) . Don't feck it up by going for too big an increase - consolidate what you have and add a few miles per week. Keep at the S&C
My thoughts exactly, Did 20 mins in fly fit gym at lunchtime, will do 9 on sunday, and gradually build

10 miles this morning, 10 of us ran, glorious weather, 8.50 pace, will do 4 runs this week, Hill session tuesday.
Nice wan JimmY, you’re flying. I think I’ve reached my post-Christmas turning point. Headed out with 8km in mind and ran 12.5km at 5.12 average pace and feeling good at the end. Perfect running weather, blue skies, light breeze, lots of others out running, the sea was like a sheet of glass as I ran up the coast road.. felt great

Noticing my HR is a good bit higher than it used be though, I presume that’s predominantly my fitness being lower. Would the low temperatures have any impact there?

Yes, Blood vessels constrict in the cold so the heart needs to work a bit harder.

My HR is way up on easy runs.

For faster stuff its in line with what is normal because I'm good and warm.

HR is never absolute because of factors like this

Ah, nice one. I wasn’t too concerned as I enjoyed the run and felt comfortable, figured it was just a lack of running compared to where I was before the break which is fine too.

After 2 miles this morning i found myself in no mans land, 5 of the gang about 15 seconds ahead of me, the other 4 about 15 behind me, @ mile 6 the lads in front eased up a bit and i tagged on just behind them,

I always find the first session of the week a Ballache, be it gym or running. Just a 25min leg loosener today but it felt ploddy.

Picked up my first ever local legend trophy on Strava for a road that's currently just me and quarry trucks and I've just got the beating of them at the moment.
