Training Run Times

no training plan, cant seen to find one that isnt paid
Here’s one for a 5k. The same guy has training plans for half and full marathons which would fit in for your trip to Dublin. Another important thing is a decent pair of running shoes. If you are going to run a full in October it would be well worth your time getting that sorted properly. If you’re in Cork John Buckleys will tell you exactly the type you’ll need.IMG_0656.jpeg

Short one today. Supposed to be training to pace myself. It didn’t go quite as planned. Was supposed to do a 1km warmup no faster than 7:20, then 1km at 7:00 and 1km at 6:40.

What I actually did was:

1km 6:26
1km 6:31
1km 6:20

Not sure if that’s good or bad.

At this point you would probably be better off training to feel and time so aim for 20 mins instead of 3k. Don't mind pace.

Run easy, it should feel easy, the talk test is good if you cant get through a full sentence without gasping you're going too fast.

if you are struggling to finish a full 20 min block start with 1min run +1 min walk x 10 build up to 2mins on 1 min off x10.

Running to time works well for new runners because its easy to scale, you can tack on an extra couple of mins without overdoing it.

The important thing is consistency. Speed, fitness and even enjoyment will all come from that.

Cheers for that. It was an easy enough run to be fair. Back running about 2 months now and making good progress. Doing a 6k run on Sunday so that’ll be a good test.

Spot on El G - Cranky, just go out and run and don't be over thinking it. If 3 km feels fine then try stretch it out to 4 km on the next run and work towards 5km. If those distances are too much then just slow down, or throw in a few walks to catch your breath.

The talk test is a great one, I regularly look like a lunatic having a chat with myself out loud to check as I always run alone! If you can hold a chat your pace is fine

edit: our posts crossed. For the 6km just drop the pace off a little and get the distance done, dont worry about time

I do shout at myself sometimes if I’m finding it tough so will definitely start using the talk test. Running at this time of year is really pleasant.

Did 8 miles last saturday, my longest run since october, Planning 9 sunday , but a few of my colleagues are doing a very
gentle 12 miles, tempting but fear that too big a jump could hurt me, MY 9 would be around 8.50 pace per mile,
Their 12 would be around 9.10 per mile,
