Training Run Times

jesus.. bit of a shock today. One of the lads I ran the HM with recently is a good buddy, same class in college. He didn't feel great after it and had been getting pains in his chest when out for runs since. We were having a laugh about it Saturday night not giving him a whole load of sympathy but luckily some other lad he knows is a consultant of some sort and arranged a cardiologist to scan him today... it shows up a 99% blockage in the main artery into his heart! They kept him there and did the stent straight away.

I've already started the process of getting myself a scan just in case. I have no symptoms or pain at all but if the outcome is an all clear then how bad. VHI are telling me I'm covered for €100 with a €100 excess.. lol!
Jaysus. He has dodged a bullet there for sure.
I would recommend it to all, i would have been doing an medical at the GP every 2 yrs where they do a resting ECG test as well as the other less critical (but important for performance) bits like bloods etc, then as part of the same process referred on for a cardic calcium test via ultrasound to check for any plaque build up in the heart. Thankfully have always had a clean slate and you can throw yourself into training knowing that you can push yourself a bit. 3 hours very well spent.

Graphed this out recently - you don't need a degree in statistics to spot the trend - be interesting to see if it can turn in Seville.
16 marathons - wow!

out of interest.. what happened in April 2012 and June 2017? I know things never sit into a perfect curve because real life, but you had 2 x 15 minute spikes there that you corrected in the next race each time. Weather/Conditions?

Honky, there's many an untold story in graphs like that as you can imagine. After my first sub 3 in Cork I got sick and injured. You come back in a testing the waters kinda way, or you do a "training" marathon - I've done a couple of them. In fact, if memory serves me, Terrier did the Cork marathon half injured in 3.07 (?) the day I did 2.59. So yeah, loads of reasons really. Sure Smurf did a 2.55 pacing a club mate and downing a pint before or after his 2.26

As Smurph said getting an ECG now and again won’t do you any harm. Friend of mine had a similar scare last year and had two stents put in. Not a bother on him now but he also realises he’s a lucky boy.

I'm on the case, waiting for the referral letter for a cardiac CT scan!

Its frightened the shite out of me to be honest, he's same age, fit etc. He only got scanned that quickly because he knew someone. Having said that I have no symptoms of anything but no harm getting someone to confirm all is ok. Went ahead and booked myself for the full MOT as well to test everything else.

The ECG my watch does says Im grand though!
