Training Run Times

Given that they announced the waves in the correspondence before the race, and made about 100 announcements in the field about being in the right wave, you would imagine that they would put the 1:40, 1:45 and 1:50 pacers in the 1:40-1:55 wave!

Happy afterwards physically as well, I had a bit of stiffness in the thighs yesterday but nothing significant, and nothing at all to report today really - I'll get out for 10km tomorrow night
Nothing wrong with a bit of stiffness Honky,

You should be a bit more fooked than that, Honky. I'd be careful with that 10k. Very easy pace or preferably cut it down and still very easy pace.
Fair call - I run on Tuesdays while the youngfella trains at soccer so I'll cut the run down to 5/6km maybe and go talk to his coaches about their smash and grab win at the weekend instead :)

When I say I have nothing to report I dont mean I'm bouncing off the walls or anything now! I can feel the fatigue in my legs but I dont have any stiffness or pain really. One of the buddies couldn't manage the stairs at home yesterday, I've been there :lol!:

I actually hmm'd and haaww'd about going up and running the Clontarf Half - a few weeks after Dublin, combine it with a trip to see the young fella , flat course, a few beers afterwards etc.

After reading the HH story about muddy pitches and narrow, overcrowded pathways, I'm kind of glad I didn't go for it TBH. It doesn't sound that well managed at all!

Ah, I’d say your experience of it would have been very different because you’d have started in Wave 1 and had manageable paths ahead of you. My issues started with kicking off behind thousands of slower runners. The muddy field at the end was probably more of an issue for me mentally than anything because I was bate, although your running shoes would have been destroyed!

Having said that my sister in law is a serious runner and was giving it consideration, I’m glad she didn’t bother as she would have only been there for a PB and I don’t think it was a PB day.. although the winner did it in 1:10!

Jaysus, that's some shite. They could have easily finished ye up at the green at the top of the road - there was only 3,000 entries - Mallow and Dungarvan do similar to that every year on totally open roads. Even if they insited n bringing you to the bottom of Alfie Byrne Road they could have let ye finish down into East Point - there'd be nobody using that road on a Saturday morning.
Some balls for the soccer players too - it'll be months before the grass grows back at this time of year.

Back to a 30 minute running block today. Have ignored the HR and just focused on slower times. I'd say my "handy" 5k time will be around 33 minutes so I'm happy enough with that.
I've been aiming for 7mins KMs but I get ahead of myself a little but nothing too mad.
One more run to finish the programme and then I'll go back to the varied training on offer in the Nike Running Club app as I was really enjoying that before it all went tits up.

Yep, I never realised the race would start and finish on the pitch, I presumed it would have been out on the Alfie Byrne as you say - there was nothing at all to be gained from it and those videos don't actually manage to portray just how badly the pitches have been damaged. My guess is that Bear Racing didnt want pay for the road closure to maximise profit from the race so they needed a big space off the road for the start/finish area. The club who use those pitches wont have the funds to just book something else either, they would be working with kids from very low income based families.

I cant actually believe the council allowed Bear Racing to have the pitches knowing what their intention was. We play all of our matches in St Annes not so far away and the council regularly call everything off when it has been raining midweek so that the pitches are protected. Its a pain with missed fixtures but the condition of the pitches is incredible throughout the year. Its the same people that would have made this call!
