Tony Leen caught by the bollix.:-)

Leen exposed by the sunday times today on page four.

Turns out Kerry bollix Leen plagiarised comprehensively Hugh McIlvanneys tribute to Jock Stein from 27 years ago.

He accepted widespread plaudits for the flowery piece before christmas.

But now Leen saying it was an error of ommission and an homage.

Leen is under severe pressure to resign.

Cant link but this is a must read.:)

The Germans take this kind of thing fairly seriously.
I'd say he'll be ok in cork.

IT WAS a turn of phrase that captured beautifully the sense of shock and loss at the sudden death of Páidí Ó Sé, the former Kerry football manager, in December.

“The larcenous nature of death, its habit of breaking in on us when we are least prepared and stealing the irreplaceable,” Tony Leen, the sports editor of the Irish Examiner, wrote in his tribute to the eight-time All Ireland winner.

If readers experienced a sense of déjà vu, it was because Hugh McIlvanney, a Sunday Times columnist, had used those very same words 27 years previously about the untimely death of Jock Stein, a former Celtic and Scottish manager, who collapsed on the touchline during a World Cup qualifier in September 1985.

TONY LEEN ON PAIDI O SE (2012) -- Irish Examiner

The larcenous nature of death, its habit of breaking in on us when we are least prepared and stealing the irreplaceable, has seldom been more painfully experienced than on the roads and boithríns around West Kerry last night.

HUGH MCILVANEY ON JOCK STEIN (1985) -- collected in 'McIlvaney on Football'

The larcenous nature of death, its habit of breaking in on us when we are least prepared and stealing the irreplaceable, has seldom been more sickeningly experienced than at Ninian Park in Cardiff on Tuesday night.

They way that I picked this up originally was that he lifted an entire article. However one line only doesn't seem so bad.

When did he accept plaudits for using it?
