Douglas St. Campus (formerly St. John's) - Jewellery Fair run by the Jewellery Course

I'm after signing up to a night class in the new year; Advanced PWNing of Noobs. Looking to gain my Certificate in it as unfortunately decades of experience in the field isn't recognised by the corporate AIs reading CVs. A Christmas present to myself. And, shur, I might make some friends, possibly learn something new, and I'll definitely be filling an evening. Even if I didn't have all that it's still a bit of precious me time. #bliss #livelaughlove

Indulge yourself! A present from you to you! Sign up for a night class and keep the gattin' for after relaxed January evenings of learning with Cork's foremost experts in their fields. #learningwiththegurlies #powertoolsanddestruction #drinksmokepwn

De Chinese Takeaway

Went for a takeaway, there. Popped into a smalleen of a place-een and got my usual order, although the spot was new to me. I swear I bankrupted them! The owner will never put their kids through college with the amount of meat there was in a single meal.

It was a grand, restful spot, three people behind the counter, nattering away. Really look after you vibe. I placed my order and I was told to have a sit-down. 'twas warm and comfy in there, welcoming, clean and bright, and done up for Christmas. A nice chill way to collect yourself (and your grub, haha😂) after a few beers. The grub was grand out. And despite the amount of beef in the tub being overflowing they made sure to stuff in the veggies so you're getting some of your five a day.

To be honest it wouldn't hurt them to put a bit more sauce in and cut down on the meat. I'm sure some would turn me into d'dinner for saying that but I feel bad, such was the affordability, that the place would be in ruins financially so dedicated are they to ensuring their patrons get a filled belly after a few. Daunt Square - 2013

No clue who these two are. Would love to find out.

Image was scanned around October 2013 so I think it was taken around March 2013, could be 2012, maybe. Fairly sure it's 2013, though. I was using my film camera that day as I gave a loan of my digital camera to a buddy to go take photos around town. I think he had a blast. I did that a few times with friends, even buying equipment so we could all go out on a photo walk.

There was an issue with a buddy in a wheelchair who had difficulty lifting heavy cameras to his eyes for the viewfinder. I bought a plastic Holga film camera with a waist level viewfinder so he could hold it in his lap and look down at it, no lifting. Unfortunately I buggered up the settings on that because despite being fun cameras they're not exactly high quality or well laid out. Cuts me up that I never got those photos. They would have been nice medium format ones and an opportunity for people to do things outside their wheelhouse. Gutting he never got to see those pictures, even the messed up ones, with all my film being destroyed from dodgy storage and living conditions (fucking depression!. Most gutted for that buddy in a wheelchair  Still, 'twas a grand day out! And there were many of them. The stuff of memories!

Highly recommended to go out with a group of pals and take photos around Cork Citaaay! Shur, we all have phones now, unlike then. Be grand with smallies, too. And there's plenty of smally-friendly cameras in Smyths and the like. The plastic Holga with the WLF and the medium format film was given to an artsy teenager who's a shaker in the film 🎞️ industry, these days. Fair Fucks! (HP5+ is my preferred film choice, along with Tri-X, although the price of fillum would have you ruined these days. Make do with digital, sez I, although there's a love of the grain in B&W for pretty much everyone. Gorgeous stuff. And you can't bate being in a darkroom with Lyric playing and the stench of fix around you. Someday, again, maybe. Gotta get rolling on the job front, first. No time for heading out so I just look through my old pitchers. Grand out New Year's Day 🖤🍺)

What Chinese?
Up by The Southern Star, Pier House or Head something. Picked it up on my stroll home from the bright lights where I was surrounded by the great and the good of Cork City (not me, ofc.)

They were pretty pronto on getting it out to me, too. Although I'd have been happy to stay sitting down a little longer as I was bate. Not the most modern looking of places but very lovely people, and very cosy in there, even though you're just waiting for a takeaway. I'll probably try some of the chef's special next time, they look unreal.

Ah.

I know it.

Used to be above the Pier Head Inn. Blackrock 'Village.'

Moved and didn't change the name.

A long lasting wrangle between both parties.

Web Workhouse/Café Eco - 2016, 4am

One of the old (not that old) haunts of Cork City. Web Workhouse at 4am after they added the Café Eco part. Lads playing chess in the middle of the night. A few people who didn't have two many beers getting a cappuccino and a tae. Forriners who still hadn't adapted to Ireland not being an all-night economy. People using the wifi to Skype their families thousands of miles away, in different timezones, who missed them sorely but were delighted they were out living their lives! Random chats with random randomers you dunno if you'll ever see again or if you ever want to.

And, you loved it, of course; a selection from the chocolate cabinet with every purchase of every tea and coffee. A sure fire way to someone's heart was to pick out a nice choccie and after they'd consumed theirs you'd tell them to go on and have yours, as well. 🍫 :ROFLMAO: And despite the fancy ones on show there was always the temptation to go for just a simple Rolo!

The days of Dreams! Cork City Council need to pull the notebook out, as well as their thumbs, and get that non-booze night-time economy rocking! A couple of places, no license needed, with coffees, mochas, and zero alcohol beers, and a small few nibbles and all that is very much necessary. And it's already fecking existed on the banks of the Lee. 🖤🍺 There were spots in Cork well ahead of their time, and you can only pray the innovators, these days, in 2026, don't get screwed by the institutions annoyed they're moving too fast for them and who don't want to get their runners on to keep up.
