Percolator:

Since 2012, Percolator have been carefully honing their craft to become one of Ireland’s most consistently arresting experimental bands, defying expectation at every turn. Masterfully navigating the spaces between subgenres, the trio’s drone-laced, hypnotic motorik rhythms are offset by spontaneous, yet intuitive curveballs, elevated by their Stereolab-recalling vocal harmonies and the miasmic ecstasy of shoegaze.

Far more than the sum of their parts, Percolator functions as a petri dish-like environment for sonic exploration. Drummer Eleanor Myler - one of Ireland’s most idiosyncratic drummers - slaloms between the NEU!-esque groove of bassist & synth player John ‘Spud’ Murphy, and the textural mastery of guitarist Ian Chestnutt. In Murphy & Chestnutt, the trio comprises not just highly respected studio & live engineers, but students of electronics, driving forward the band’s ever-evolving sense of interplay, exploration and discovery.

The band has earned its stature as one of the most malleable, yet razor-sharp live units in Ireland, having extensively toured as far as France, while their 2017 debut album, Sestra, won much critical acclaim, and The Thin Air’s runaway Album of the Year.

“More than delivering on expectations, their new single leans further into the slaloming, hypnosis-inducing rhythmic interplay that made their debut album such an exciting proposition. The most exciting Irish act since Girl Band.” - The Thin Air on ‘Freshin’

“A staggering collection of eight tracks packaged as ‘Sestra’, electronically charged experimental standards drenched in poly-rhythmic krautrock connotations underscored with subtle flourishes of shoegaze, prog rock & resonating noise” - Primal Music

“Sestra is a gripping, intriguing, original and paradoxical album. What blows here is the perfume of total freedom as a metaphor for the world that is our today as magnificently sublime as it is it may be horribly devastated.”- Burn Your Life (France)

Pretty Happy:

Pretty Happy are an Art-Punk three-piece from Cork. Drawing on a rebellious tradition of Cork Post-Punk, the band has sculpted their own theatre influenced, all-consuming noise rock sound.

The members of Pretty Happy, (Abbey Blake, Arann Blake and Andy Killian), are passionate about their local arts scene. Abbey is founder of Angry Mom Collective, a movement set up to battle the gender divide in Irish arts. The band are as equally inspired by the Irish stage in their performance going as far to stage a hybrid gig/play in 2020.
Already listed as one of the top new bands to watch this year by Hot Press, The Irish Times and The Irish Examiner, 2022 will see Pretty Happy supporting Gilla Band (formerly Girl Band) and The Mary Wallopers before playing All Together Now Festival. They are also set to release a new EP recorded with John ‘Spud’ Murphy (Black Midi/Lankum) in Hellfire Studios.

"Brilliantly surreal” – Tom Robinson, BBC6
"One of the country’s most dazzlingly original acts." - Stuart Clarke, Hot Press Magazine
“Pretty Happy are a diamond in the rough... surely destined for bigger things” -Lauren Murphy, Sunday Times
"So good. Such an amazing band.” - Sofia K, KEXP

" Something of a best-kept secret." - Lauren Murphy, entertainment.ie
"Absolutely amazing music, what an amazing band they are too" -Stephen McCauley, BBC NI
"Pretty Happy are developing a reputation for the energy of their live shows and Abbey Blake’s emerging distinctive pedal-driven electronic guitar style." - Ellie O'Byrne, Irish Examiner
“New wavey post-punk which delights. ” -Nialler9

Here is my review of percolator recordings. In this review, I’ll be comparing the build to two other builds I have done. Those two other builds are a Mission 5E3, and a Marsh 5F1. All three of these kits are killer kits, but they are all unique and very different. Some of you reading may be wondering why I’m comparing this little guy to a 5E3… well, because I was once new to building and I didn’t know where to start, and hearing a comparison of a couple of options might be nice to another beginner. If you’re looking for the short answer, this amp is awesome! If you’re looking for a more detailed answer, keep reading! Just a heads up, my experience with this amp comes entirely from living in an apartment.

Mike Mcgrath chats to John 'Spud' Murphy (Percolator) & Stevie & Jake Lennox (Junk Drawer) for the Echo.

"The band have all been busy with other things, also — proprietor of Dublin-based Guerilla Studios, Murphy has been producing for UK post-punk wunderkinder Black MIDI, on their breakout second album ‘Cavalcade’, among many others, while drummer Eleanor Myler shared an amazing streamed show with Lankum’s Radie Peat and Katie Kim. Murphy talks about how these endeavours have come together" -JSM
