They caught the cunt who beat up the Cork lad in Coogee, Sydney....

From The Sydney Morning Herald - today

POLICE have charged a 20-year-old Bankstown man with the attempted murder of an Irish backpacker who was left in coma after a brutal bashing in August.

David Keohane, 29, was attacked in Coogee about 2.30am on August 10. He has not woken from a coma since the attack, and his family flew him back to Ireland last month.

His family had flown from their home in County Cork to be at his bedside, and to appeal for information about the assault. Police also released security camera footage of Mr Keohane just before he was bashed.

The 20-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon in Bankstown, and was taken to a house in Meredith Street, Bankstown, which police searched and where they seized a number of items.

The man was then taken back to the police station where he refused to be interviewed. Police charged him with one count of attempted murder, and one count of aggravated robbery with wounding.

The man's 19-year-old girlfriend was also arrested and charged with hindering the investigation and concealing a serious offence. She was conditionally bailed to appear before Waverley Local Court on October 29.

The man spent the night at Bankstown police station and will face Bankstown Local Court today.

Police confirmed that the Keohane family have been informed of the arrest.

"Inquiries into the alleged assault continue and we have not ruled out making further arrests,'' Eastern Beaches Acting Commander Superintendent Paul Pisanos said.

Yup - I'd settle for 10 years in the chokey sharing a cell with a 20 stone Samoan who insists on being called Mammy for the bastard.

Apparantley there was a second fella involved who the cops know about and are on the hunt for at the moment. Hope they catch that prick too! No sentence is long or harsh enough for that kind of shite if ya ask me.

A 20-year-old New Zealander has been remanded in custody in Sydney over the assault on David Keohane last August.

Thomas Isaako appeared in Bankstown Local Court today charged with attempted murder and aggravated robbery, following his arrest yesterday afternoon.

The court was told Mr Isaako was already on bail on charges related to a later assault.

His 19-year-old girlfriend has been charged with hindering police and concealing a serious offence. She was given conditional bail.

Police are still seeking a second man in connection with the assault.

29-year-old David Keohane, originally from Ballyvolane, Co Cork, was assaulted after he left the Coogee Bay Hotel in Sydney about 2.30am on 9 August.

At 3am that morning he was found in a pool of blood on the footpath at the corner of Brook and Kidman streets.

It took several days to identify him.

He was put in an induced coma at the Prince of Wales Hospital and surgeons carried out a facial reconstruction.

Last month his family flew him home, and he remains in the coma at Cork University Hospital.
