The trees on Knockpogue/Knockfree avenue

This has got very messy, All 6 Local CLLRS voted for the scheme which will see the removal of up to 30 trees along the roadway to
facilitate cycle lanes, Residents are up in arms, They say much needed parking spaces for the residents, school, church parochial hall
will be taken away, The elected reps by and large have gone to ground, In fairness to kenneth Collins he did go on air with Neil on wednesday
He tried to justify his decision to vote for the scheme, But he managed to say this is the fault of the government in Dublin,
He says the council will give residents trees to plant in their gardens if they want, But how long does it take a tree to mature?
The only comfort the 6 elected reps have is they all voted the same way, Although Michelle Gould is reported to have said she wasnt a CLLR
at the time, Needless to say she would have voted same way as her colleagues,
The other reps to best of my knowledge are Damien Boylan FG, John Sheahan FF, Brian Mcarthy PBP, I think Ken O flynn was a CLLR at the time of the vote,
I saw a post earlier from the 32 county republican group expressing support for the residents,:D
One point Collins made was the scheme is part of a 7 million eu package for the area, if the scheme is cancelled the money goes back to Dublin,
It is incredible to have a protest like this and not one politician appearing for a photo op,

I thought everyone up de northside parked on the footpaths anyway.

It will definitely cause issues in adjoining roads etc. I have an elderly aunt living near there. She still drives, capably so, but is almost afraid to go out as the family next door have 6 cars between boyfriends etc, and there is little courtesy already, so she may not be able to park near her house.

Anytime I'm up there the road in Knockfree is full with cars so god knows what will happen if this goes ahead.

The cycle lanes won't be passable for bikes.

Just on that, in England on streets where the road is too narrow, councils paint a white line running along the footpath, perhaps 18 inches in, and cars can park on the footpath up to that line. It makes sense, but it's actually illegal here no matter what.
Down in Waterford the council paint the scooter lane on the road rather than kerbing it. It keeps scooters off the footpath but also gives them more right on the road.

Like roads engineers and the council aren't happy about kerbed cycle/scooter lanes, but they are duty bound to put them in.

And there is the reason, our overlords in the EU said so.
If you put in these stupid cycle lanes we will give you money for other things.

As I said on a previous thread, cycle lanes there make no sense at all can't be justified one bit at all. All hills to get there.
Who is actually cycling in the area? As I said I've family there and I've never once saw a bicycle in that area.

I've seen plenty of scramblers, quads and e scooters. They're looking to clamp down on scramblers and e-scooters due to the amount of incidents especially the recent tragic one in Dublin (RIP). Putting cycle lanes here is only going to make things worse, e-scooters are allowed in cycle lanes as they're treated the same as bicycles.

The fact even opposition CCLRS voted for it is mind boggling and even more mind boggling none of them went out and supported the very people who voted them in, even if it is for a photo opp.

As you said the Cork 32 CSM coming out with a statement is actually worrying - then the usual comments 'SF selling out their people yet again' #
It is going to get nasty up there if they try ram through.

The day they started sure they'd security fencing up and a resident got a socket set and came over and took the fencing down, they did all they could to try start.
They managed to damage a few trees alright by cutting branches etc.

You would want a neck like a jockeys bollocks to stand with the residents after voting for the scheme

I hope now this is a start to the end of this absolute bull shit about cycle lanes.
Great to see a community standing together on this and not being steam rolled over by those, " that feel they know best "
It is disrespectful to eldery residents who may have mobility issues
