The terraced houses on Southern Road

I always wondered what was beyond this point ! Ta

No wonder they have all those no parking signs, they must be plagued by the hospital visitors.

Well they'll be plagued by me and my feckin notebook and camera tomorrow.

I find that whole area fascinating. Those houses weren't bog standard gaffs built to house just anyone. Similar to the red brick terrace on Summerhill South. You'd wonder who lived there originally - big shots from Ford, Odlums, or maybe even our old British chums.

Although I genuinely don't think that the houses on Summerhill South have parking. They do however have a 206 bus service that passes by around twice a week.

Get onto cllr Kieran MC Carthy for the full info. I'd say those houses must be 1850's or older. I lvef in one farther up the road to that particular terrace over 10 years ago. Plenty of parking at the back. Most of these houses are now split into apartments in our case we were on the third floor with a two bed.

class :D

It's mad, that service used to go every 10 minutes when I was a teenager, any delays were under 30 minutes, dog handy.

There's something very interesting about them, I think it's down to the massive wall across the road. It feels like a valley or something. There are two houses across the road I think with a long set of steps up to them, they look very spooky.

It's a lovely area like, I'm fascinated by it. I did stop into the Southern Star for a pint on my travels, very nice pub if a little generic.

I'm not a fan of the new fangled Southern star tbh. It has everything you shouldn't have in a bar tbh. Previously it was a lovely place for a decent pint of stout.

Back in the day these houses would have been on the City boundary. If you walk past the entrance to the South Infirmary hospital there is a stone on the wall marking the boundary and I think a date sometime in the 18??.

Capwell bus depot was originally the terminus for the Cork Capwell railway and the West Cork Line would have been where the South Link is now. You also had a tram line to Douglas. So these houses were very central to transport links and the city.

I enjoyed it but I recognised a few of the boring as fuck Blackrock heads who follow Bunty around the place while thinking they're kings of the castle. They were going to the Hyde Out at the beginning until they got bored and went back to the Pier Head.

It is a lovely part of the city. I just took a tour on google maps. It reminds me of the dillion’s cross area but more urban. I like terraced houses with large walls and secret gardens.
