The Syrian Arab Republic

The Syrians achieved freedom from the Ottoman's after the 1916 Arab revolt and in 1919 the Syrian National Congress was held that created the Kingdom of Syria.

The French quickly interfered in the country and took it over and in 1925 there was the Great Syrian Revolt led by Druze Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, spreading across the country.

In the 30's & 40's the Franco-Syrian war which led to the independence of Syria from the French mandate after WW2. On Evacuation Day 1946 the French marched out of the country.

50's to 70's there were several military rules & coups until the Baathists came to power under the Alawite Assad family. They would rule the country for over 50 years making a modern secular state the Syrian Arab Republic.

Under their rule they supported the Palestinian rejectionists in the 90's that oppossed the Oslo Accords between Israel & Palestine.

In the 20's they fought the war on terror on the side of the West, remained an ally of Russia & Iran and helped defeat Daesh during the civil war before the Baathists were removed from power.

The country's major food exports are Damascus goat & Aswassi sheep, wheat & barley is harvested, fruits such as olives, grapes, pomegranates, apples, and almonds are grown on the Mediterranean coast.

Finally oil is big in the northeast were Syrian Kurds reside. 6 of whom were PM's of the country and 2 were both PM's & Pres In the country's history.
