An Oireachtas Committee have decided that possession of drugs for personal use should no longer be an arrestable offence. Not just marijuana but ALL drugs.
They think though that local councils (not the Oireachtas) could bring in some kind of bye-laws whereby public drug use could be stopped.

Oh, and the same Committee want to outlaw the sale of large aerosol canisters because...erm...some people are abusing them for a high.



So - Heroin and Crack Cocaine for personal use OK, but how very dare you buy a large can of deoderant - you might get hooked on Lynx or Old Spice

Specifically comparing Uruguay vs USA for Cannibis

Commercialisation like in the US has been a disaster, with a corresponding uptick in usage, strength of the drugs and accompanying Psychosis

Most places that decriminalised have not seen uptick in use Uruguay went a step further and limit strength of the drugs through control of supply.

This seems to be the way to go

From what little Ive read the Portuguese model works well enough.

Clogging up the courts with fellas with 50 euro worth of weed is bananas. Dont partake myself but you may as well be prosecuting fellas with a six pack of cans.

Oh I'd agree on decriminalising small quantities of cannabis, but our beauts want to decriminalise ALL drugs for personal use according to reports on Morning Ireland this morning.

Fellahs high as kites on coke and crack and heroin is seemingly OK but how very dare anyone leave nitrous oxide canisters lying about. Meanwhile vapes come in all shades, shapes, and sizes.

Opening this up to ALL drugs (apart from nitrous oxide and propellant gasses obvs) is absolutely off the wall batshit crazy.

The only thing I'd say in extension is if you're not controlling supply you're feeding human trafficking and organised crime

Handy few grow houses in the midlands for weed. create a few jobs for the IFA

contract out the harder drugs to one of the pharma companies like the NHS used to do in the 60s

Control through state owned "offies" like the scandis do with booze.

Better to mitigate the worst parts of the supply than pretend it won't happen if we wish it to

Yeah I think most people would be happy with that but it's grow houses for "weed".

It's the attitude of "A shur where's the harm in possession of heroin coke or crack or god knows what other hard drugs are out there" that mystifies me.

You're not allowed have St John's Wort in this country anymore but shur let's legalise small quantities of crack - IT'S NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in Thailand at Christmas with the family, they have permitted the sale of cannabis there. Got to say I didn't like it much, it is the equivalent of the vape shops here.. every 2nd or 3rd shop is selling weed now and the bang of it is absolutely everywhere you go constantly
