Gold, silver, 4th and 7th is a decent return from the evening - plus Kelly and Hill into their finals.

Ellen Walshe is a phenomenal athlete - trains away outside the system with her coach Brian Sweeney and keeps on delivering. Master tactical performance from her. Held on for the last 40m too - awesome.

Sweeney is one of the good guys for sure - a club coach that still manages to produce a multiple Olympic finalist and now the perfect result tonight

LOL, during his interview, in response to being asked about how he went so fast in the first 50, Kelly, entirely reasonably, asks the interviewer , “What was my split?”

Jack, old chap, this is RTÉ you’re talking to here - that girl is only reading out the question she was told to ask - she does not have a clue about swimming. You’re lucky the question was relevant at all and you can be sure that she is the one person in the entire building who has not looked at any splits.

Ireland becoming a credible swimming nation - we had our first "didn't advance because of the two per nation rule" for Ireland this morning, when Lottie Cullen missed out because Danielle Hill and Grace Davison had qualified faster than her QT. Tough on Lottie but a good sign of strenght in depth

She’s unreal - was still down in 4th with about 90cm left to swim - savage.
A natural born killer - your medal is never safe with Mona in the hunt.

It's a pity Cork swimming still hasn't reached any significant level. Again we have no representation at senior champs. Cassin and Kelly don't count. I know the huge effort that goes into the sport by parent coaches and other volunteers but the fact of the matter is that swimming in cork is like hurling in leitrim. Its the only sport that cork doesn't do well in considering we are bear the top in most other sports.
Until we get a dedicated pool and a full time local coach with a pedigree it will still fail to deliver. 1976 is a long time since our last Olympian
