The Official Swimming Thread

Jesus, 1:48.94 for Shortt 😮 - that’s less than a second off the junior ER. LOL, hanging out of the lane rope as usual.

Wiffen’s got to be happy - leading at 300m having come up from 6th. That’s a great burn for a lad on the road back. Fair dues to him for giving it a good go in what was never his main event.

That’s a scorcher from McCartney too - again, not her core event but with 1:05 low she’s beginning to breathe down Mona’s neck at this stage.

Great night for the Irish swimmers. Shortt obviously the pick of the bunch - that was a sizzling time considering he was 1:51+ a few weeks ago. A World junior record like…

Bailey swam a stormer out in lane 7 to make the final in the 200 free - 1:41.01 won’t win a medal but he might have a small bit more. A sub-1:40 is coming soon to Irish swimming maybe.

Ellen Walshe looked very strong - 4th or 5th fastest means she should feature in the shakeup.

A bit too soon for McCartney - her big swim was the semi and making the final was more than was expected of her. She’s a 200 BRS specialist in any case so her form will hopefully carry.

Wiffen looking fierce comfortable through 300. Tracking the Hungarian lad all the way

Sarkany going for it now... Wiffen can't hold him

Evan Bailey - outstanding - another PB, aother NR and a bronze medal behind Scott & McMillan.
LOL, he got up on the podium before they called him - had to get back down again.

4th in the medal table now - 2 gold, 2 bronzes.

,,, and feckin' McMillan with a gold and a bronze too ;)

Brilliant session tonight - every race was banging.
