The Official Spurs thread

Keeper I'd be giving Kinsky a run or go get Kelleher in January.
Back 4 (Porro Romero Van de Ven Spence) they're ok.
Bentancur and Palhinha are fine but it's from there on that there is nothing - absolutely nothing.

No plan, no transition, no battle, no cohesion. It's as if Frank believes corners and long throws will be the goal threat. 0.05XG. It's not Maddison, Kulusevski and crew. He doesn't want to create from free play. Simons gets bullied off the ball and is pissed off looking at what he could have won at Chelsea yesterday. But let's say there's a player there. There's him and Kudus and a left wing and a striker. No matter what combination Frank plays including Sarr and Bergvall, they all look like they've never met and don't know what they are supposed to do.

Richarlison is as Richarlison does - nothing.

Tel needs to get a run because at least he puts in a shift.

It's a miracle they are where they are.

It's like he is trying to be the anti-Ange.....no attack whatsoever.

Come on, lad, you're better than this. Ball progression must come from that area of the pitch. It was already known that the two lads are not great from that perspective, and Frank's tactics only compounds this. Yet, Bentancur gets a new contract.

No fan in their right mind can say those two are alright.

As DMs they're fine. Frank insists on 2 holding in front of back 4. Which is mental but that's how it is.. 4 3 3 would make more sense.

Wow. That's not a good sign.

Any idea what their gripe is?

Specifically p1ssed off with Frank about something?
People seem to be saying they didn't want to clap fans who are booing them, rather than being specifically pissed off with Frank.

I wouldn't blame players for wanting to get back in the dressing room after that. They must have been raging.

Ah right, that's less of an issue then - alebit not ideal.

Snubbing a manager directly in public could've gone nuclear very quickly (...if that was the case)

It looked like after full-time you were trying to get Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence to go over to the fans and they just ignored you and walked past, what can you say about that?

All the players are of course frustrated. They would like to do well, they would like to win, they would like to perform well, so I understand that. I think it is about which is difficult to be consistent in good times and in bad times. That is why I went around to the fans as I did. It is more fun when we win, I can tell you that.

That is quite a striking image of Van de Ven and Spence walking past with you looking at them, is that acceptable?

I understand why you ask the question, but I think that is one of the small issues. We have Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence who are doing everything they can. They perform very well so far this season and everyone is frustrated. We do things in a different way, so I don’t think it is a big problem.

And just for @Jim Comic

Can I just ask as well about the XG, it was just 0.05 today, a record low for Spurs since XG has existed?

I would say that, of course, hurt massively. I've never been in charge of a team that created that little in one game, never. So that, of course, I will look into what we can do to make it better. But I think that's one thing. I think everything is a little bit linked. And today, yeah, we didn't hit the level.

A few of the Betfair pundits on podcast have said they'd be wary of promoting any manager from the like of BHA, Bournemouth, Brentford etc.

The reason being the clubs are so well run it gives the managers an excellent chance of success. Take that support away and maybe theyre not as good as they appear?

There's probably a degree of sense in that.

There are many reasons why a manager might fail. Having a stable platform and good supporting processes (esp. recruiting) does a lot to limit what can go wrong.

So when it does go wrong you can probably safely say the manager wasn't up to it...or wasn't a good fit (...which is rare, as they recruit managers more intelligently than most clubs)

Plus, more than most clubs they will give you the benefit of the doubt for longer if your results are lagging your underlying performances.

I think you have to judge each case on its merits but you can see the logic of it.

But also this. Managing in the PL is hard, no matter what club you are at.

But maybe we should weigh managerial success at Brentford or Brighton (...or maybe even Liverpool?) a little less than at some other clubs?
