The Official PROC Restaurant review thread.

Great pizza in Connollys. I had one in there during the summer served to me by Sam himself. The sun beating down, the pints flowing, and lovely pizza.

I also got my photo taken with the Pink Floyd flag in the back 😊
It’s such a class spot Connellys, steeped in musical history, the venue itself is iconic and the work they done out the back last year with the new stage is incredible. My wans sister lives down that way so we go down a good bit.

I’d argue they probably have the best sound system in the country, custom built by Toby Hatchett for the space, it’s makes gigs so much better when the sound is right, see below

along with in my opinion the best pizza you’ll get it’s also always filled with very lovely ladies aswell. Ticks all the boxes for me.

Went to Mantra on princes st again last night. It’s the best Indian food you will get in Cork and it’s not even close.

The vegetable bhajis and duck tandoori starters are worth the trip alone, I went for butter chicken absolutely tops.

3 of us got 2 starters to share, 3 mains, 2 rice, 2 naan bread and 6 beers. 122 euro ex tip, exceptional value and very nice staff who we had good fun with.

Place is full every night apparently so booked ahead, The only show in town for Indian food.

A few recent ones.

We tried Nosh 19 out of curiosity..

Staff were lovely, the room is not a pile different to when Nasher had it. Menu was worryingly split across Japanese, Chinese and Thai food.

Joe McNamee and a load of people on Insta had given the place the hard sell on authenticity and there was a menu in Cantonese or Mandaren in chalk on the way in, and loads of Asian looking people tucking into lovely looking grub but we got A Wonton soup, Chow Mein and a Sweet snd Sour Pork Belly thing.

It was shit enough..the Wonton's poor, Chow Mein Bland. The pork was nice but no different to any other Chinese in Cork

A pity, I had high ish hopes. that was 74 quid for 3 mains, 2 beers and a few glasses of milk.

Contrast to the Golden Elephant on McCurtain Street. It's the old Nells wine bar. the room isn't great, it's used to be quite dark and old fashioned when it was nells and outside of some brighter (maybe not better) lighting and some Thai Tat it's the same.

Staff also great, Thai lady took us through them menu. It's southern Thai apparently so more sweet and sour than spicy According to her.

We had Tom Yum Prawns and Thai Prawn Crackers to start and we both had the house speciality yellow curry one for main. I've never been to Thailand but this was top notch grub..Early tasty. well presented, super flavours. Strongly recommend this place it was lovely.

2 starters, 2 mains, 3 pints and a glass of singa beer (€8 a pint, eek) came to €90 not cheap but 100% worth it for the grub.

I would worry about it's viability though Friday night of Christmas season and a casual setting it was less than half full.
Have only been to the Golden Elephant’s Douglas establishment but been multiple times, always busy and always good.

Can anyone shine any light on the following - I tried to book a restaurant online for Feb - could not book more than 1 month ahead.. so I rang them - and only 1 time slot available for the date in Feb I wanted...
So why do they limit booking online? just as well I didn't wait till it would be within the month

They may have a function booked for the day you require in Feb

I was trying to book the South County for Saturday and the whole week was unavailable online.

I called them and they said they had taken bookings offline for December but had plenty of tables if you call them. Booked in now.

They seem to have opened up their online system again. Never any harm in giving places a call if that happens
