Its not for every week, for food at that level its decent. TBH Im not sure how they would make money out of it given the amount of courses (even if they are small) and the quality of it all.. excellent food

Fellas spend that in the pub every month without batting an eyelid, I'd rather a decent meal myself

Tbh if I'm dropping that kind of coin I would rather head away somewhere for a night and get a dinner thrown in.

Feels like less of a violation, mebbe that's just me ?

I am definitely not asking this question because I have no Christmas present lined up for the missus

Hmm off the top of my head.

The Europe in Killarney have great facilities and the room/grub is top notch.

You can't really go far wrong with Cliff House in Ardmore. Sea view, lovely pool and Michelin * restaurant.

My personal fave is Ard na Sidhe house outside Killorglin. Off the beaten track, lakeside, only 20 or so rooms and a real charm. Great food too. Have been going there with a few years. (Only open April-Oct if you're going the voucher route).

Eating in the Cliff House main restaurant costs more than what I had suggested! Maybe when they combine it with a room it takes a bit off but the rooms aren't cheap either. Its a good while since I stayed or ate there - was amazing though

Edit: Just checked 1 night + dinner package - Costs from €589 to €745 for a Deluxe Sea View room for two people, pending season.

I ended up in The Great Southern down in Killarney for a weekend at the end of last month. The hotel itself is OK. I was staying in a suite (upgrade) - it was all old world charm and all that. My wife said that the spa wasn't up to much - definitely not worth the prices being charged - considering it's owned by Hayfield Manor.

Ate in the bar on night one - distinctly average mains though the sharing board to start was really great. The pints in the bar are shit.

The food in the restaurant was very good though. Decent wine menu too.

I don't think I'd pay that kind of money to stay there again - I think it was about €780 for two nights with breakfast both nights and dinner on one night.

We were upgraded to a suite from a Garden View Deluxe Junior Suite - Christ knows what the suite would've cost.

The Lake Hotel in Killarney has an outstanding restaurant for dinner matched with a high level of service.

Bizarrely - the food in the bar/bistro and breakfast are both terrible. The breakfast offering is like something from a Centra. Hard to correlate with the restaurant.

The pints in The Lake Hotel are out-fuckin'-standing.
