The Official PROC Restaurant review thread.

Went to Cornmarket 51 last weekend.

Our second time there. we had high expectations coming in because it was great the previous time but that was about 2 years ago so a lot of things could have changed in the meantime.

Dining room is tiny but they pull a neat trick with Mirrors and lighting so it never feels like your sitting at someone else's table. Staff are friendly but professional.

I got a Salt Cod Scotch Egg to start very nice but couldhave used something on the side to give crunch.

Mrs got a pickled mussel thing which was magic.

Mains were Free range pork Belly. I'm always surprised how different proper free-range pork is compared to the leathery tasteless gray mass we are often served. And that there isn't demand to make it a more widespread option.

It was delicious, tasty, moist with just enough crackling to offer bite without breaking the enamel off your teeth.

Mrs had Monk tail on the bone.

We shared a bottle of plonk who's name escapes me, some manner of yoke from the Alsace. No complaints anyway.

Bakewell tart to finish. It all came to €159 ex tip

Not cheap but not mad these days. and worth it.

I would happily put this place in the same category as anywhere you would care to mention as best in town. It's easily up there with Goldie, (I havent gone to the Glass Curtain yet) a gem of a restaurant.

Had dinner in Greenes the other night.

€59 for a set menu - three courses, a side, and tea/coffee.

I had a beetroot and feta risotto to start with, and massive fillet steak on the stone for mains, and a cheeseboard for dessert.

The steak alone was probably worth the €59. Very rare to see a fillet on a menu now because of the cost, but it was absolutely gorgeous and with a nice selection of sauces.

Service was absolutely brilliant but they did seem to be having some trouble in the kitchen. We were waiting an hour for our starters, and some other tables were getting quite agitated at the wait times.

Overall very pleasant and I'd go back, maybe even again before Christmas as I did think it was good value for what you got.

8.2/10

Had a family thing thing this weekend so 15 of us pitched up in Ballycotton to go to Seachurch.

Menu was basically one designed as a crowd pleaser.

you know the one exactly..Burger, Fish and Chips, Curry, Steak Sandwich, Pizza, some bit of Falafel for the vegans,

Nothing to set the pulse racing but it was lovely. Really well executed.

I got a black pudding salad thing and the fish and chips. Both were very nice. Fish exceptionally so, the only gripe I'd have is the portion size was colossal. Like two dinners worth, but give the people what they want I guess.

Missus got the Falafel and enjoyed it also (she's not vegan). everyone gave it the thumbs up.

Staff were sound we had kids crawling all over the place and they were fierce accommodating.

Mains were basically €20, Starters a tenner, wine was grand, they were flogging cocktails to all and sundry

Honestly though the best bit was the setting we were in the big bay window looking out over Ballynamona over to Garryvoe.

There aren't many places like it in the country, O'Looney's in lahinch springs to mind I'm sure there are others

it'll never be accused of being fine dining but 100% worth it of your down there and looking for a decent feed.

Its a great spot alright, and the playground proximity is very handy between courses!

Had a bite there Sunday 2 weeks ago after doing the cliff walk. Excellent spot. Nothing fancy, but everything done to a high standard. No Beamish though, which is a serious blot on the copybook.

I went along to Ruairi's Kitchen ( old post office on High Street) at about 2pm today to hopefully get a takeaway lunch but alas it was closed. I checked the opening hours on Google and it seems it opens four days, Tuesday to Friday. Call me old-fashioned but what's wrong with opening Monday to Friday especially when closed at weekends. A good honest 5 -day week like! In fairness, maybe the owner has some other commitments but if you're starting a,venture like this, you could be there yourself 5 days, you need to be open and available. I have heard good reports so I will call back when I'm out that way again.
