The Official PROC Restaurant review thread.

Have Greggs made any moves to Ireland yet? That will be a magical day.

You can get Gregg's sausage rolls in the frozen section of Dunnes out in Bishopstown.

Never had them so I can't vouch for their authenticity.

I was once extremely hungover in Liverpool and thought that I was going to die unless I got a Gregg's sausage roll. The fucking place was closed.

I nearly wept...

I told a Scouser about this in a bar later that same day (I had recovered, naturellement) and he said to me;

"Donch yews 'ave Gregg-ccch's in 'Aai-lint, lad?"

"No, we don't."

"Fooooooch! All yews've got is Sayer's then?"

"No, no Sayer's either."

"Fooooch. Das bad, dah is. Sorry teh 'ear i'".

The Scouse accent is the aural equivalent of having nails dragged down a blackboard whilst simultaneously having sandpaper rubbed against the back of your neck.

Imagine, if you will Rebel_y, the following being read out on the radio in a sharp Scouser accent one evening in early May '25

"And of course, congratulations to Liverpool and to their first-season coach on their stunning Premiership win"

Went to Cornmarket 51 last weekend.

Our second time there. we had high expectations coming in because it was great the previous time but that was about 2 years ago so a lot of things could have changed in the meantime.

Dining room is tiny but they pull a neat trick with Mirrors and lighting so it never feels like your sitting at someone else's table. Staff are friendly but professional.

I got a Salt Cod Scotch Egg to start very nice but couldhave used something on the side to give crunch.

Mrs got a pickled mussel thing which was magic.

Mains were Free range pork Belly. I'm always surprised how different proper free-range pork is compared to the leathery tasteless gray mass we are often served. And that there isn't demand to make it a more widespread option.

It was delicious, tasty, moist with just enough crackling to offer bite without breaking the enamel off your teeth.

Mrs had Monk tail on the bone.

We shared a bottle of plonk who's name escapes me, some manner of yoke from the Alsace. No complaints anyway.

Bakewell tart to finish. It all came to €159 ex tip

Not cheap but not mad these days. and worth it.

I would happily put this place in the same category as anywhere you would care to mention as best in town. It's easily up there with Goldie, (I havent gone to the Glass Curtain yet) a gem of a restaurant.

Had dinner in Greenes the other night.

€59 for a set menu - three courses, a side, and tea/coffee.

I had a beetroot and feta risotto to start with, and massive fillet steak on the stone for mains, and a cheeseboard for dessert.

The steak alone was probably worth the €59. Very rare to see a fillet on a menu now because of the cost, but it was absolutely gorgeous and with a nice selection of sauces.

Service was absolutely brilliant but they did seem to be having some trouble in the kitchen. We were waiting an hour for our starters, and some other tables were getting quite agitated at the wait times.

Overall very pleasant and I'd go back, maybe even again before Christmas as I did think it was good value for what you got.

8.2/10
