It's ironic seeing a Newcastle fan moan about the effect of FFP, given Newcastle were one of the 14 clubs who voted for it.

The origin of the FFP was primarily to lower the risk of clubs spending beyond their means and potentially putting their long-term survival at risk as a result.

To a large degree FFP has succeeded on that front. There have been far fewer large bankruptcies, no contagion event of one club going under and pulling other with it and the debt-to-revenue ratio has dropped from ~100% prior to FFP to ~53% currently

It's disingenuous of Simon Jordan, whose ownership at Palace ended in him taking the club into administration because the club's wage bill was oversized, to feign ignorance on what FFP was primarily supposed to achieve in the first place.

Subsequent transfer fee inflation & wage inflation was primarily a product of a monstruous growth in TV money.

Caveat: I agree that one notable effect of FFP was to give entrenched big clubs an advantage which means it's really challenging for smaller clubs to ever catch up.
