I think you are right.
Selling academy player's McAtee for 30m and Bobb for 27m clear profit in the January transfer window and replacing with Semenyo sounds good value
Selling Akanji for 15m, having paid that for him 4 years previously, and buying Guehi for 20m also seems like good business.
arsenal paid 100m for Rice which at the time seemed too much but looks like being the top player in a team that is going to win the PL and maybe the CL, a regular with England and shortlisted for player of the year.

Guehi is a weird example, came up through chelsea academy but not deemed good enough abd then liverpool wouldn't stump up 30m in the summer transfer window, waiting for him to become a free agent this summer and pissed off Palace in the process.
