It's a bit self-defeating for landlords to maintain such high rents. Even if they reduced them, which would be the economical thing to do, the footfall and custom is probably no longer there for either party to keep the premises open.I wonder how many of these businesses would close down if they didn't have the sky high rents and rates??
Would they do better if they operated outside the City, or even online only??
In passing, one side effect of all this is that it's hard to find good quality clothing, footwear, etc., nowadays. It's all polyester crap and faux leather shoes.
