That's not how that works. The state would have to seek to enforce it before they could look at any further action, and they haven't.

Afaik no member of the Augustinian order in Cork has ever been involved in the clerical abuse scandals.

The state made an incredibly stupid deal with the institutional church in relation to the redress scheme, but notwithstanding the stupidity of it they did make a deal. They can't renege on that.

Even apart from that, any attempt to seize lands would be contrary to the constitution. Constitutional property rights don't cease to exist because we don't like the property owners.

It isn't about deference though, I don't think.

I would say that it was at the time of the redress deal, but you can't renegotiate a legal agreement because the social landscape has changed.
