The official opening and closing businesses thread

And all I'm saying is the Catholic Church consigned themselves to where they are now because of their own actions, blaming the people is only making it worse. But for immigrants the church would be sunk. In the mid 80s I used to collect at mass and probably would have done more as time moved on, but I was repulsed by the likes of Connelly and Brady, along with Cleary and the whole shower trying to convince us not to believe our lying eyes.

In general, religion is responsible for so many wars and so much hatred, indeed even now the CC is using its overbearing control over schools to artificially bolster communions and confirmations. This actually harms the CC because those controlling the church have a false impression of their strength.
The CCP endorses this message.

This isn't one you see too often. A church closing down.

That's a massive building. Surely they couldn't knock it down?

BREAKING NEWS

All About Cork has learned that St Augustine’s Church Cork is set to close permanently.

The church, which belongs to the Order of Saint Augustine, is located on Washington Street in the heart of Cork.

It was originally built in 1942 and later renovated in 1972.

The building has two entrances, one on Washington Street and another on Grand Parade.

It is understood that serving priests will inform parishioners of the decision at Masses on Saturday and Sunday.

A source close to the order described the development as “a very sad time for all,” adding that the closure reflects declining attendance at church services.
Maybe they could convert into something useful, like accommodation.

The days of a city church within 5 mins walking distance of one another are gone tbf.

The government should just take it and sell it to cover redress schemes.

The state made an incredibly stupid deal with the institutional church in relation to the redress scheme, but notwithstanding the stupidity of it they did make a deal. They can't renege on that.

Even apart from that, any attempt to seize lands would be contrary to the constitution. Constitutional property rights don't cease to exist because we don't like the property owners.
