The Official Munster Rugby Thread™

A positive spin on that result is that it is a shock to the system, right when it is needed, before Rowntree takes charge.
A humiliation like this cannot be ignored.

It gives Munster a target, beat Leinster. Which is a pretty good target because they're almost certainly the best team in Europe. If Munster can beat Leinster, then they'll be able to beat almost any other team in Europe.

So it gives Munster a target, a chip on their shoulder and a new management team who can't simply keep up business as usual.

Yes, that's a very optimistic spin on it...
Extremely optimistic.

Nothing will change. Remember they wanted to give van graan a contract extension.

One of the biggest issues yesterday was a lack of a footballing brain. Pointless runs into contact, pointless passes for the sake of trying to move the ball but without any actual plan or idea or spotting of space to exploit.

Fuck all of our players can make a decent skip pass and fewer are able to receive them.

And of course, the 2 cardinal sins you learn at u12s is not to run sideways with the ball and never take the ball standing were repeatedly committed.

Why are we doing these things???

It has similarities to the away game against Stade Francais which put an end to Foley’s tenure. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened here if JVG wasn’t leaving. The obvious answer is … nothing.

It’s important to remember too, sport is cyclical. I think Munster are in the position Leinster we’re 20 years ago where the likes of Keogh, Hogan et al went up to them. They won’t stay on top forever Cullen/Lancaster/McBryde will move on, Contepomi already is. I’m. It sure where the magic comes from in the back room, presumably Lancaster. But anyway that doesn’t take the attention away from Munster getting their shit together.

Munster were very lucky back then and it was completely unsustainable. Lucky in the sense of it was a once in a hundred year collection of players and it was relatively early days wrt European competition. There was no underlying structure underpinning the success.

Leinster reorganised themselves from root to branch. They have an infrastructure, population and geographical concentration that we'll never match.

Of course they will have cycles, but not as bad as ours.

Don't forget money, lots of it.They have little overheads and loans unlike Munster, where we have Thomond, they only rent their two venues for games and training.

Munster were miles off it against Leinsters second string.

It was tough watching Goggin. Murray is gone as a top player with 3 or 4 years. Still featuring him in important games is ridiculous.
Murray at least has a history he's being selected on, as opposed to Carbery who has done sweet fuck all in his career to be given the platform he has. Also, what photos Niall Scannell has to be considered a first choice Munster player I'd love to know. Worse still, he seems to be part of brains trust on field.

That was a fucking embarrassment yesterday. Wouldn't hold it against any Munster side losing to a Leinster first 15 while leaving it all on the pitch, they're a better a side. But losing to a glorified Leinster AIL selection is a pathetic showing. And some of these lads expecting to be in Irish contention then.

Kevin O’Byrne confirmed as heading to Ealing for next season.
He fell down the pecking order way too quickly, whatever happened. Bit similar to Marshall last season. Probably too good for the Championship but it’s a handy place for a move to the Premiership too.

Niall Scannell actually looks nervous on the pitch as he knows that he is well out of his depth and he really should be sitting in the stands with the fans at best.

He is not accurate in his throws, offers nothing going forward, poor in defence and he gives away stupid penalties.

When has Carbery last fully dominated and ran a game?
