The Official Man Utd Thread - Part 3.

Rafe played him out on the left for a while because he knew he couldn't control the centre. He played with more of a free role out there and it suited him.
Yep.

Completely agree. He never had the discipline to he a midfielder. He also never had the ability to dictate a game like Keane, Scholes, Alonso et al.

But when he was given a free roll he did ... em ....er.... alright. Yes, he did alright.

Nah.

Rafa gave him a more attacking & free role because he had (in great supply) the pace, power, shooting & passing abilities required to do the hardest thing in football - create & score goals.

Every elite manager worth his salt in Gerrard's era tried to buy Gerrard to play him in midfield.

What are you on about? He never played on the left. He was at his best as a 10 behind Torres and put down plenty of years as a very good centre mid too. Rarely played right back as a youngster too. He was sometimes used on the left for England but so were Scholes and Lampard when they didn’t know what to do with all 3 of them together. But he never played on the left and if he did it was once in a blue moon.

And comparison with him and Fernandes are fair I think. I’m not comparing them to anyone else, just each other. Both are the key men providing big moments in teams that are a bit above average. I just find it funny that Bruno is getting so much praise from the same SMC’s who had no time for Gerrard. That was my general point.

It's almost as if their opinions about Gerrard are disingenuous and should be ignored?
