The Official Man Utd Thread - Part 3.

Tbf, they're pushing to get 2 goals back at the time. You're always open to the counter against a good team if you lose the ball in that situation.

They had 4 men behind the ball.

To go from such a controlling position to having your pants pulled down in ~4 seconds is pretty poor.

It's not like they went one-for-one at the back and piled men forward.

Had a look again at the third goal, as it popped up on Twitter.

Tactics/formations aside...how the f**k do you go from the first image to the second image in about 4 seconds?

Mistakes from Ugarte, Shaw, Ugarte (again) and finally Maguire.

Brutal.

I watched this game at the weekend, first time watching either side for 90 mins this season. I couldn't believe the naivety in the Utd defence and how easy it was to get in behind them. What's worse is City figured it out quickly and executed the same move 3 or 4 times, while Utd did nothing to sort it out. Playing a high line is well and good, but Maguire is far too static for it, and when you have Haaland's pace, power, ad finishing ability to deal with you cannot give him acres to run into like they did.

At one point City were attacking from out near the right hand side. Utd were set reasonably well in that it was 2 on 2 at this point on that side, the 2nd city player came from behind their player in possession and made that run off the shoulder looking for the ball in behind. This would have caused no issue for Utd if Maguire simply tracked Dokus (I think) run and Ugarte went to the player in possession to close the obvious slide rule pass down.. but instead both Utd defenders moved towards the City player in possession, and they simply slide Doku in behind for another shot on goal

I was just back from watching my own young fellas U14 team play, I wouldn't say they dont make those mistakes as they are kids, but if they did their coach would have been raging. Amorim can talk about systems all he wants but this is the basics of the game Utd are failing to execute. Mad stuff

Still, it bate the borefest that was the Liverpool game earlier hands down
