The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

Pool have some serious potential in the CB position. Ndukwe, Leoni and Jacquet all have the raw abilities to be top class CBs. Development is never linear though. Need a fair slice of luck too.

All three look really impressive and absolute beasts physically.

It's a good approach because, as you say, development is not linear & injuries at key times can de-rail a career. Assuming no major injury issues it's fair to assume that at least 2 of the 3 will go on to be good (or better) PL top 6-level centre-backs. Maybe even all three.

The challenge is giving them sufficient minutes in a formation that'll allow them to develop without being overly exposed. I'd imagine playing alongside VVD was a big draw for all three.

Jones off to Inter for £35m which probably isn’t much in the current market. I always valued him as a squad player who filled in admirably but he has a lower ceiling than many and obviously wants to make his way now in a first team somewhere and I reckon he will do well at Inter in a slower league.

Window isn’t closed yet so not time for headloss but we’d really want to be making headway with a few more signings. I would say Barcola is still on a knife edge but I’d prefer to see us sign a versatile type of midfielder for the squad than another winger on top of that.

The loan will do him good, but you'd imagine that Iraola would've ideally liked to have kept him around until Jan at least - to provide cover while Leoni works his way back & Jacquet settles in.

Historic transfer moves & Slot's decisions haven't helped in this case.
He couldn't have played until he gets his permit which is the primary reason for the move. Playing reserves doesn't rack up the points or however they rank it

Take a look at the article I posted.

If Liverpool had fielded more English players more often last season then the club would've had 2 ESC spots this season - and Ndukwe could've been given one, which is a fallback if you don't quality for a work permit.

I'm paid to lead, not to read!

That's really interesting though

The transfer window closes in less than 2 weeks and I've not heard a peep about midfield reinforcements. We are seriously weak there and the idea of Szobo, Grav and McAllister is frightening. We got walked thru in midfield all last season and preseason has highlighted this again. We need a bastard to replace Grav who is just too soft in the DM roll.

All the rumours over the last week or so was there would be outs before there were ins. Maybe Jones is the start, and the word is Chiesa won't be involved in the Newcastle squad.

Reckon Nyoni will replace Jones in the first team squad. 12 days to go before the window closes and so far all we've seen is a loan deal and activating the release clause of some Spanish younfella and I'm supposed to believe the club are going to move for the likes of Barcola and another winger for 200m plus, lol. FSG have left this squad threadbare before, they'll do it again. Given the recent investment, our business is done now under FSG until the consortium gain full control in 12 months.

Nyoni looks a talent but it would be negligent to be in a situation where you're one injury away from him being the only defensive midfielder at the club (...sorry Endo san) in a season of 50+ games. He needs to be introduced gradually.
