The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

A very strange take on tonight's game.

Did you actually watch all of it?

The way Slot set up the side Wirtz was on a hiding to nothing, but he still battled hard and showed more quality on the ball than all his teammates combined.
He battled hard.

He cost 115 million.

He showed quality on the ball.

When? He made 19 passes. He lost possession 10 times and was hooked after 78 minutes.

I remember one very good lob pass to Frimpong. Thats it. I might have missed one or two bits. But we're not talking about a lot are we?

He was mostly anonymous against City too.

He's done nothing so far to justify the sky high fee that was paid for him.

He does show some skills some times I'll give you that. But again, 115 million.

Remember the stick Pogba got? He had a far better first season than Wirtz.

No, you’re right, to a point. Of course he hasn’t justified his fee. Not yet anyway. I am unsure if a player that costs that much can ever justify his fee as such but I do see a player in there. The biggest concern for me is that I feel like he lacks a yard of speed and a bit more power to really take the game by the scruff of the neck and making things happen on his own.

I think he’s reliant on putting another player or two around him of similar quality to get the best out of him. I think he will prove to be a good signing at the very least but I’m not sure he will ever justify his fee.

But I wouldn’t pick holes in him tonight. He was one of the few players who looked like he could at least string a few passes together in a team that wasn’t set up in the slightest to get the best out of him. But that tiny bit extra lack of pace and power is the reason he can’t impact more on his own in moments IMO.

Ohh 🙄so it’s slots fault that wirtz is shite, he’s a fkn Tottenham player ffs, 115m and the likes of babel will be remembered more favorably than this fkn chancer shammy ball player.

Shabby m8. You're arguing with a fella who fell over himself for Sancho or as we like to call him Bencho.

Of course you can justify a high fee.

Madrid paid 80 million for Ronaldo.

In 2009. He was cheap in the long run.

I don't hear any Arsenal fans questioning the Rice Fee.

Or Chelsea fans going nuts over the 100 mill for Caicedo.

I'm sure there's loads more.
