The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

Complete nonsense from McCoist. Liverpool blessed to lose by only 2. PSG will likely win at Anfield too. The non-penalty shove from Konate was a stonewall peno.
McCoist was obviously just basing it off the fact it was 2-0 but he hasn’t factored in how good PSG are and how bad Liverpool are. The second leg is a non event. I remember when we lost 3-0 in Barcelona but thinking there was an outside chance of an upset in the second leg. Klopp’s team used do that to you. But I honestly think we have absolutely no hope in the second leg here. I reckon Fulham will beat us Sunday.

I can get over being knocked out by PSG. They’re a fairly brilliant side that is primed around this part of the season and aided domestically too. But I can’t accept going 5 at the back, not having a single shot on goal, losing 2-0 and it should have been 5 or 6.

It’s gone to the stage whereby we are all immune to losing, including the players who just don’t seem up for the fight. The team is devoid of leadership. There was hanging on to the hope of a trophy but both of those hopes went in the space of the last 4 days. There is now the hope of top 5 but every passing week with Slot is killing that too.

We don’t need a master tactician to see out the season. We need someone to get their players off their holes to try get enough wins to get top 5 and then rethink the manager situation in late May. The players have stopped playing for Slot and did so quite a long time ago.

There's more than a whiff of late stage Brodge off Slot.

With quite a while too. If Slot’s replacement is even half as good as Brodge’s then we will be doing well.

I won’t write off any of the current players until I see them under another manager to be honest. I have quite a few grievances with a lot of them but I won’t write them off. But Slot has to go. He’s been a write off since we got hammered at home to PSV. The season has been a painful clinging on for dear life since. The upturn isn’t coming and the players have stopped playing for him.

26% possession and 0 shots on target in CL quarter final. The more these dire performances continue the more im convinced that we won the league on pure muscle memory. The harsh reality is, Slot is a mid-level europa league level manager that is getting badly found out at this level. That defeat makes it 16 loses this season.

Biggest problem (tonight) is Liverpool have no muscle memory playing negative park-the-bus football like this.

I'd grudgingly accept it if they were any good at it.

Thought Wirtz did as much as you could hope tonight. Great touch, working the space well, showing bursts of pace & strengths to free himself from 2 + 3 men at times, linked well with Ekitike - who played the Tesco value Firmino role well for the first half but fluffed a lot of semi-promising positions.

There's a world where Liverpool could score 2 next week, but can it be done without conceding? Doubt it.

I can’t fully agree with you on the winning of the league. Obviously City aren’t the force they were when Klopp was in charge and that was a big help. A chunk of it was down to the fact Slot didn’t try overhaul everything. He just tweaked things in a minor way, generally bringing more balance to the team’s style and was very good in his in-game tweaks. He did play his part in the title, along with other factors including some muscle memory from Klopp’s tenure.

The overhaul came in the summer and it hasn’t worked yet. I said it before a ball was kicked that I expected a transition type season after the changes in the summer but I don’t think anyone expected it to be this bad. Slot has lost these players in the process and there’s no retrieving the situation when you lose the dressing room.

It also goes to show how important leaders are in the group. Liverpool currently have almost none. The likes of Henderson, Milner etc weren’t the best players technically but they clearly were brilliant leaders of the group and standards. We haven’t got the balance right between talent, athleticism and leadership. Leadership is a very hard thing to buy as well.

Wittz getting another pass for being anonymous again.

Yes there was one excellent pass. He cost 115 million m8s.

A very strange take on tonight's game.

Did you actually watch all of it?

The way Slot set up the side Wirtz was on a hiding to nothing, but he still battled hard and showed more quality on the ball than all his teammates combined.
