Very poor game in bad conditions but we did deserve to win it. Much better side first half and did retreat after scoring but did just enough to win. Sunderland’s first home loss this season and we had to dog it out in the end.

Not much else of note happened other than losing Endo to injury who was suited to the conditions and doing well.

Salah and Gakpo are an enigma at the moment. Wirtz and Ekitike bring plenty of threat and class but the other two constantly ruin attacking moves with bad, selfish play. The need for two, very fast and unpredictable wingers in the summer is greater than ever.

I still don't understand why Salah gets 90 minutes. Assist aside (it was a dead ball) he was poor all night and doesn't have the legs anymore.

Another game where Chiesa and Rio should have been on to run them back.

Mental.taking a young fella with pace off in the 85th minute, and leaving the old fella on when you're defending deep and maybe hoping to get space to break into when Sunderland take more chances.

I can see why Rio isn’t brought on in a situation like that. He’s very light and maybe a bit naive so Slot maybe doesn’t trust him to do the right things in that scenario just yet and he’s very weak on defending set pieces(Salah not much better) which is what most of the PL is now.

I would have always brought him on for Gakpo earlier in any case but I can see why Slot didn’t make the sub very late on.

I agree Ekitike had nothing left and Sunderland were going by him with ease. Salah is gone. He was a brilliant player but he depended on his speed and it has left him. I feel for Endo. You know he very much wanted to play for Japan this summer. Life is cruel. On a brighter note Van Dyke and Konate were excellent today. If they can play like they did today consistently we will be hard to beat again. Hopefully Gomez will stay healthy but that seems beyond him. We need an elite winger, a right back, cover at center back, and a ball winning midfielder.
