The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

I don't think the relationship with the fans it's gone.

He was a very naughty boy, but his legacy at the club is secure...whether he never plays for the club again or sees out the remaining 1.5 years of his contract.

If he gives a mea culpa and somehow ends up still a Liverpool player post-AFCON then he'll still get a great reception at Anfield.
This. Fully agreed.

He’s in the wrong on what he did Saturday but it doesn’t tarnish his history at the club. To be honest, the main reason I’d sell is because he just doesn’t appear to fit into this new side that the club are trying to build, his age is very much against him and I think we may as well use this disastrous season as the time to transition away from him being a key player than having to do it properly in a year or two.

As much as I think the interview is wrong on his behalf, it signals Slot has lost the dressing room to some extent but I don’t actually think Mo said anything overly shocking. It’s the course of action as wrong more than what he said. Didn’t Keane do similar at United and he was moved on?

Yet he’s so awful that one of the ‘better teams in the CL’, probably the foremost, Real Madrid, want to sign him.

Weren’t you telling us how Salah was past him prime 2 years ago and shouldn’t have been given a contract extension..?…pardon us if we disregard your judgement on players.
Hi Jukey, bumping this one in honour of Tormentor in chief of the SSBs. Yer lucky he's not around to witness this.

Very very lucky!

Not sure I'd go that far.

Salah's behaviour is a personal one triggered specifically by him not being in the starting XI.

Alisson's comments yesterday are probably a better reflection of the mindset of the dressing room currently.

Asked whether the Liverpool dressing room are still behind Slot, Alisson said: "Of course, yeah. I think [winning] the Premier League last season, before Arne came in everyone talks about the huge challenge being a substitute for Jurgen Klopp.

"Now it looks like everyone takes for granted what we achieved in the last season. It should not be taken for granted. That should be enough, but we believe in his knowledge. We believe in his style of play and that he is capable of helping us to turn around this situation. I believe this is not only about ourselves, but that is the situation with the club as well."

:lol!:

It's different when we do it :lol!:

There was a crazy amount of turnover in the squad over the summer - many of the exits were necessary or outside the club's control.

Allowing the captain and the guy who just racked up one of the best PL seasons of all-time to both leave for nothing would've added further to that.

The 2 year deal for Salah, even at those high wages, was always framed by the possibilty that he may not see out the 2 seasons and he'd recoup a fee as opposed to leaving for nothing.

So they gave him a two year contract in case he wents nuts in December and they had to sell him in January for making a mockery of the club, being a little bit naughty :lol!:

This is tremendous fun. Salah has behaved almost exactly like Ronaldo did, but the difference in how the SSBs are framing this one, and how they framed the Ronaldo incident is comical.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Given the form both showed while propelling the team to the title last season, exceptions had to be made in order to offer them a few more years at the club. If they were let go, there would have been uproar among the fans because of how good both were playing.

If Salah can be sold for some sort of fee soon then it won’t even matter, it’ll arguably be a good deal upon reflection.

I see what you’re saying but the fact the team are also struggling to get out of a long slump would say Alisson is being a good pro in his interview but that the dressing room isn’t fully getting behind the manager. Results probably speak the loudest.
