The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

You were right all along Nelly. You simply can't leave one side of your defence wide open against top class teams.

Bradley was outstanding tonight. Up against one of the best in the world and he had him in his pocket. Put Trent in there and Vinny likely has another field day.
Hopefully Bradley continues the level headedness he's shown over the last 3 games or so. He also could have had a few goals in that time.

It's a much easier game when you don't get a yellow in the 20th minute!!

Absolutely. It's in games like this, against top opposition, you can see that he lacks nothing in his game to be a long-term right-back at a club chasing PLs and CLs.

He just needs to get to a level of consistency especially around decision-making. He can learn a hell of a lot from Robbo imho. A top pro.

Bradley had been shite most of the season to date - not sure what your point is there, the criticism was fully justified, as it was for most of the players and manager, even when they were getting late goals to eek out wins in the first few weeks of the season.

As for the glossing over of the bad form, I don’t know about that, I’d say it’s got plenty of airtime but most knowledgeable football ppl would say they have the quality to turn it around and they get cut some slack for the number of new players trying to be integrated. Having won a few games at the start was a help too to avoid mass hysteria.

Real Madrid is a big game, even if it’s group stage. Liverpool needed to back up the win at the weekend, so given the wobble of the previous few weeks I get the relief of the two wins.
I thought he was fine. You should try having Dalot.

Ah here, there was no comparison between the coverage of “Liverpool running away with the league” phase (which ignored how fortunate they’d been), last night and the shocking stuff in between. We were obviously having a great laugh at it but where was that cunt Carragher during it? And no point going on about direct football, sure that’s the Premier League. I won’t shed a tear over those goals from idiots passing the ball out from the back and losing simple goals to the high press. I don’t think that football was in any way more beautiful to watch.

The level of attention Liverpool playing well last night is getting versus weeks of being shocking is gas. Really shows the media love in and bias.

Like their own fans were decrying poor Conor Bradley all season and now he’s the greatest thing ever. European football is different. Liverpool having an army of light players this season is not the disadvantage in Europe that it is in the Premier League.
Still not sure about Bradley. Did well last night but he often gets too tight to the man, fouls or gets spun. He is whole hearted which the fans love but we’ve seen him play well before. It’s the playing well consistently is what will make him make it or not. He also gets injured quite a bit which doesn’t help him. Still a lot to prove in my eyes before we can rely him on him as a first choice RB for the long term.

Lot of talk about Liverpool being back and it did very much look like the Liverpool of last season for a lot of it. The fact that the majority of the team played in their usual positions would help that. The fact we played a team that played ball is maybe the biggest help. It was also nice to see the team drop off into a low block at times and not just naively chase the ball down and leave things open. That sort of tweak was what made Slot last season.

It would be nice to not have to go away to City on Sunday to try get a run going. Home comforts were nice and needed. At least some confidence is back.

Thought it was a poor enough game and wouldn't read anything into it tbh. The Liverpool forwards didn't impress me at all and I wouldn't be surprised to see them back in crisis mode again soon.

As for RM, they should have started Valverde in CM to control and drive them forward from there.
Round pegs in round holes everytime.

Not all of the issues are suddenly fixed. But the team are looking a lot more like themselves. A big part of that is an uptick in work-rate and aggression all over the pitch. There were times during the slump when only Szoboszlai was routinely winning the majority of his battles.

I didn't see anyone comment on it but Liverpool had only 40% possession in the first half and only 38% in the second half (yet created 3 big chances to zero in that second half).

But it didn't feel like it because lots of Real's possession was quite sterile and when Liverpool aggressively won the ball back (all over the pitch) there was a swift transition into attack.

Tactically Slot got one over on Xabi, like he did against Ancelotti last season.

A draw wouldn't be a disaster, given a "handy run" (tm) of fixtures upcoming.

But a win for either side would be huge - and would start to put some pressure on Arsenal, who have an "unhandy run" upcoming.

All those midfielders are good players in their own right but the 3 together is definitely lacking control and guile. I don't think Real are any better than they were last year when Arsenal comfortably dumped them out.
