The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

I haven't watched it back but I didn't think Kerkez was going to make it in time.

Caicedo has hit the odd thunderbolt but he's hardly KDB. I'd expect him to score from there one every 20+ attempts. Fair play to him, it was a screamer - but if VVD had pressed him them Gusto would've had a much easier chance.

Them's the breaks. The mistake was made by McAllister.
Cut the danger off at source. Its probably the first thing any coach teaches a kid.

I'll admit Van Dyke is in a pickle of a situation but he should be be trying to get to Caicedo.

Nah. You're bending facts to engineer a criticism of VVD...which I must say I find hugely surprising behaviour from you.

Cutting off danger at source was MacAllister's job & he failed to do so.

In that situation the right thing to do is to cover the run and either take your chances that your keeper saves a shot from distance or, if Caicedo chooses to actually travel into the box, Konate covers across.

Serious outcome bias at play too btw. I wonder what your view would be if VVD charged out and Caicedo simply slipped Gusto through for an unchallenged tap-in?

Yes, McAllister makes a mistake but somebody has to try and stop caicedo. When its three on two, you still try and stop the man with the ball.

If he'd slipped it through to Gusto, cest la vie. As I said, he was in a pickle of a situation no matter what he did. Running away and letting Caicedo advance was the worst option though.

If he'd really done his homework he might even have forced Caicedo on to his weaker foot. Konate was covering another Chelsea player who was harder to get the ball to. And Kerkes was doing a full backs job in getting back to cover

GOATs do GOAT things m8. VVD might be a top man one on one and shield fellas away from goal with his strength but he consistently makes mistakes in play. Last season when Saka sat Robertson on his arse he was strolling back to goal. If he'd made some kind of an effort he might have even got back, but he was every bit as leisurely as Marcus Rashford was at United.

And this skater nonsense that he does with his hands behind his back is bloody comical. Still, left Sancho score one of his few goals for Utd by being the skater boi.

This is 100% spot on. There is no bias here as the ball went into the net but the fault lay with MacAllister. The defence was exposed due to him getting badly caught wrong side. The thing to do, which Van Dijk does most of the time, is cover off the higher percentage goal chance and show faith in keeper if shot goes on target. Also, it’s not as if it was Messi on the edge of the box with time, Caicedo isn’t exactly known for rifling shot into the top corner now is he? It’s a cracking strike.

I know people love to point the finger at any sort Van Dijk fault because of how he gets lauded so much but it’s clutching at straws to say the least to blame him for that goal. One would argue that you’d want to have some sort of personal agenda against him to arrive at that conclusion.

I'm afraid this is just one of those situations where we'll have to agree that...you're wrong 🤣

The SMC’s want to compare Liverpool and United because Liverpool have lost 3 games in a row but United’s shit form is based across years while Liverpool’s is based across one week. Come back to us in a few years if this is a trend.

And as highlighted there, Liverpool have come in for plenty of flack in various ways in the last week, plenty of it very fair. But it’s one very bad week, not a countless amount of them.

And no matter what anyone says, what money is spent or what was won last season, turning over quite a few players in the squad is a transition. Not a massive one but it’s a transition nonetheless and transitions require time. I do understand when so much money is spent that they’ll be given less time by everyone though.
