Burnley made absolutely no attempt to attack so in that sense I would say we weren’t lucky because we forced all the play but the soft manner of how the penalty was won was fortuitous.

We haven’t clicked at all yet. Thought it was a strange move not putting Isak on the bench to come on and impact if needed and he was needed. There’s still a lot of new players bedding into the team and squad so it’ll take a while to get into top gear but winning games until then is crucial.

Slot explained that Isak will more quickly get to a decent level physically by having a decent training session this weekend than playing 10-15mins of a game. He also said that he could do 45mins or more either mid-week or next weekend, but not both.

I think it was the right call, even if that had ended up at 0-0. It's a long season and although Liverpool have loads of attacking quality there's not piles of depth. Better to work Isak into the rotation at the right speed than to toss him in cold and risk injury.

If Isak were to part of yesterday's squad it might well have been at Chiesa's expense. Imagine if Ekiteke gets an injury after 10mins. Do you risk Isak having to then play 85+ mins of footbal in his first game back?

Clean sheets v Arsenal and Burnley are all well and good but i’d like to see how they fare against teams that actually try to attack.

Ten man Newcastle had more bollocks than Billion pounds Bumnal.

Another 250 million should do it*

That game at Anfield was there for Arsenal but Arteta could not find it in himself to trust his attacking players to have a go at a Liverpool team that are obviously having issues in bringing in new players to the set up.

Is that champions luck? - if Arteta had more cojones, you could argue it would have been Liverpool's bad luck to draw their main challengers so early in the season?

Likewise drawing a Newcastle side so obviously fired up over the Isak saga could have been classed a tad unfortunate too if result had gone the other way.

If guess if you keep plugging away until the final whistle and you load the final third with pace/trickery then you give yourself a reasonable chance of getting "lucky".

It can be self-fulfillling to a degree too, if you expect to score and the opposition half expect to concede.

It’s the nature of the game when you park the bus inside your own box too, you’re liable to a ball deflecting in or a handball or something unfortunate to happen. It’s clearly a risky tactic but it’s probably the best way to approach such a game from Burnley’s point of view. I wouldn’t say they were unlucky though because they showed absolutely no attacking ambition.

Scoring all these late winners isn’t sustainable but wins like that do an awful lot for belief and also can be a bit of a killer for other teams at the top to see rivals scrape wins in that manner.

It would be nice to play well soon and win a game without a heart attack.

Can be a killer for me when I went with Bumnal for last man standing at work and was disgusted at the thought of all the nearly knocked outs who would have picked Liverpool.

Agree. From Parker's point of view it's absolutely the right way to approach these games.

But you need to execute it perfectly to turn it into a point. He swapped out two of the midfielders after an hour because they were shattered. You need a lot of legs to close all those passing lanes down efficiently.

Often it's the tired bodies/minds that catch you out late on. In this case though, it's just one idiot doing one very idiotic thing.
