The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

I dunno.

Under FSG, Liverpool have showed a willingness to selectively go big fee-wise on a player if they really think he's got the potential to be transformational - e.g. VVD & Alisson. You could even throw Keita into that bucket, but he clearly didn't work out.

It's big money but it's on a guy who is probably in the 5th to 10th best player in the world bracket. Plus his age profile is such that if he does well at Liverpool he'll more than hold his value across a 3-4 year timeframe. FSG love that sh1t.

IMHO it spells the end for Harvey Elliott. It'll be interesting to see what the net cost will be to swap Elliott for Wirtz. That's the kind of lens that the Liverpool hierarchy tends to view these things.

I think Elliott will go on to have a really good career, but likely has a lower long-term ceiling than Wirtz.
In general there are plenty of assets within the squad that can be sold without weakening the overall strength of the team. Nunez will also be sold for a good chunk and replaced with someone who is more befitting of the style that Slot wants. Tsimikas will be sold and that fee used against the money to buy Kerkez. Selling squad players and buying first team players for now but also the future.

Crucially, losing Trent means we are losing massively in terms of creativity therefore those numbers need to replaced. That’s why Wirtz’s signing is so important. Combine that with the creativity in different ways from Frimpong and Kerkez and the team will have a better spread of creativity.

I would not be surprised if a top striker is brought in. It wouldn’t shock me if Isak and Alvarez are lured in by the club. It would take big money but if the player is right, the club have shown they are prepared to buy. I only think either of those two would be sold if they forced a move though.

They are definitely one of the better teams in getting good prices for their castoffs.

To a degree a rising tide raises all ships. Especially young players, where buying clubs often have an overly optimistic view of their ceiling level - or their likelihood to reach that ceiling.

Liverpool got a good price for Jordan Ibe in part because of how good players made him look even better (...and there was a view that he was "the next Raheem Sterling")

£116.5 million.

Poor aul Liverpool.

How can they ever compete :lol!:

Yerra liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Real/Barca
United/Pool
Bayern

That’s the royal 5 imo. PSG/City are oil clubs.
Juve/AC haven’t the revenue streams.

Liverpool are dead right to splash the cash from a position of relative strength.

They have huge sponsorship deals, sell out every game and have massive TV money and CL revenue. Failure to spend big every odd season would be negligent.

They’ll recoup well over €100m in sales of Kelleher/Nunez/Elliot + more

City have €370m spent since January with no sign of stopping and will have Rodri back next season.

So ye rags will have plenty optimism going into next year!!

looks like Robbo might be going to Atletico Madrid, Madrid is a great city to live in so would be a nice swansong for him at 31.
Having said that he could still be a good squad player for a few more seasons.

Robertson heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. This would make sense with only a year left on his contract and Kerkez being brought in.

From a football point of view, I think it would be a good move. His legs aren’t gone but they have diminished plenty, he wouldn’t be a regular starter anymore and a fee could be got for him. Might be the best move for himself.

From an overall point of view, it would be a loss of a leader and big personality in the squad. Would also mean another left back would be required as I assume Tsimikas is off too.

I know there’s an expectation that next season will be another major title tilt and it can be but I think it’s more likely to be somewhat of a transitional season while old legs and big personalities are shipped in in favour of new blood. It takes time to bed in so many changes.

Wouldn't begrudge him the move one bit, assuming Kerkez in coming in. He's been simply outstanding for Liverpool for years.

But I'd prefer to move on Tsimikas & keep Robbo to battle with / deputise for Kerkez.
