Biggest chance of the match was probably Brentford's miss early in game.
Not sure I'd agree. It was a hear in mouth moment alright, but when you look back at it I think it's a much tougher chance for Wissa to put away than it initially looks. It's coming it him at high speed, his run brings him outside the frame of the goal (so he needs to get his angles right) and Alisson has rushed out to give him very little to aim at.
Unluckily for Brentford the slight touch he did get probably denied Damsgaard a much easier chance at the back stick - as someone (for the life of me I can't recall who...could've been anyone really) didn't adequately track his run.
I'd rate Gakpo's chance and Nunez's two goals as bigger chances. The stats nerds put Wissa's chance as the 3rd biggest, behind the second goal and (a little surprisigly) Diaz's fluffed header after 15mins. I guess he got the flight of the ball & his body positioning all wrong and managed to make it look like much less of a chance that it really was.
Fair. It wasn’t vintage dominance, actually created more clear chances against Forest but the key to the win was the clean sheet. Brentford had a few chances on the break but I do think the better side won.
Agree. Brentford conceded space and were happy to fall back and put the full XI behind the ball on defence.
They are very much entitled to do so, but if your approach let's the ball live a lot of its life in and around your box then you can't complain when it falls to a striker (twice) close in and he smashes it home.
Will need to get in the habit of keeping clean sheets as we will face similar tests from here until May, as Slot points out.
I've never been one to obsess over clean sheets (...maybe I was a Gooner in a previous life?).
But I do think keeping unforced defensive errors to a minimum is key to not getting turned over in games where you dominate the play. You have to stay switched on and only concede when the opposition does something special.
In such cases you need the likes of Elliot more as he has that creative guile to pick the lock in tight spaces.
It's no coincidence that both goals involved tasteful passes final third from Harvey Elliot, where didn't rush it and made sure he made the right choice and executed it well. That's the biggest thing he brings to this side, especially late on in games. Hopefully Slot comes to learn what Klopp knew. No matter what kind of game it is Elliot can really help in the last 20mins especially. Probably needs to improve his stamina to start taking minutes from Curtis & Szob.
