The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

His words were that Trent is a “total liability.”

I don’t believe that at all. His attacking strengths have far more often outweighed his defensive weaknesses. And he’s brilliant in the inverted role in midfield. I think we’ve lost something like 4 PL games in over 40 games since he took up that role.

I’m not saying he doesn’t have defensive weaknesses because he clearly does. But to say he’s a total liability is hilarious.
Inverting Trent has been a disaster. His best position is right back but for some reason he has decided he no longer wants to defend. And what’s more frustrating is that Klopp and Linders indulge him. Him inverting into midfield also puts too much pressure on Konate who just cannot cope with playing both full back and centre back. The new manger needs to either insist on him playing as a right back and if he refuses to defend - bench him. Or move him permanently into midfield. Or sell the cunt.

Na na m8, you've got it all wrong. @Shabby is the head SSB in here, and you're just not reading his script.

This doesn’t include the recent slump, Trent actually wasn’t on the pitch when Palace scored but it’s up until the start of the April. The record speaks for itself.

Some disastrous stats those are!

Edit: It began when 2-0 down to Arsenal at Anfield last season. Not before 2-0, Klopp changed his role to invert during the game.

I'd give Trent some slack to take up unconventional postions in attacking phases, as his creativity and ability to execute passes/cross is off the charts and he's the side's main creative force.

But in cases where he's back in a decent position on defensive phases then he simply has to defend. That's not negotiable.

There's simply no excuse for now passive he was for the Branthwaite goal. Lads in my son's u10 put in more robust challenges on corners than that. Maybe he expected VVD to move into that space & make the clearance, but even then he has to be awake to the risk of him being blocked off. At the very least he needs to make it awkward for him and give him a nudge.

He was a lot more combative (in the tackle & aerially) when he was younger, so he has the ability in him to defend better. The freedom that he's given in possession has bled across into a relaxation of his defensive responibilities.

the players have left klopp and the fans down sadly. I guess they switched off mentally knowing he was leaving at the end of the season. didn't we see something similar with fergie before he reversed his decision and stayed on longer? maybe i am misremembering.
