The Official Irish Rugby Thread

As a very casual observer of rugby would any of ye fellas have any concerns about the length of the year? I mean half the Irish fellas played on to last August with the lions thing and here they are still going on the 18th of July. Can't be good for these fellas bodies and a lot of them have a load of miles on the clock?
Yes I have, it will shorten careers for sure. It's been a pattern over the decades for returning Lions to pick up injuries and while it might end the careers for some, others might take 18 months to get back to where they were. And now we have this, it's too much, maybe not just now as the tournament is replacing the traditional end of season tour but the intensity has increased and as they figure it out, that intensity will increase.

What it does mean though is that the IRFU has to increase quality and squad depth, in order to compete over the long term. There will be more injuries and that means you need players of a similar quality who can seamlessly step in.
