I wouldn't think the outcome would be any different if it was anyone who did it. He acted on impulse after provocation, no previous issues, apologised, paid compensation and showed remorse. He was never going to be jailed and it would be totally disproportionate to even think he would.

Bluntly, yes.

There’s a Cork footballer who was in Court for something a bit sleezier, and frankly more embarrassing than this, but in the same general category of seriousness (as in, not that serious). He’s a teacher, and as far as I know remained a teacher, rightly so.
